Manager, Mechanical Engineer (IPT) (TS/SCI) with Security Clearance
Description: Job Title: Manager, Mechanical Engineering / IPT Job Code: SAS20220505-81805 Job Location: Rochester, NY Job Description: This position will be responsible for providing Management and IPT Leadership in support of customer-funded programs and internal research efforts within our Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) Division of L3Harris Corporation. This Integrated Product Team (IPT) lead position provides system integration and test engineering execution across a broad range of subsystems to meet critical program deliverables. As a team leader this role manages and contributes to engineering tasks, from proposals to system architecture to hardware development, integration, test and delivery. Prior experience with payload and space vehicle integration and testing is preferred. The candidate will be part of a larger program team as a leader dedicated to meeting the customer's technical, cost and schedule needs. Provide support and technical leadership over requirements definition, concept generation, material selection, trade studies, design sensitivity/optimization studies, preliminary and final design, design documentation, manufacturing, and assembly/integration and testing. Candidate must have strong proficiency in 3D modeling, design for manufacturing, mechanical analysis and ability to work independently or within a multi-disciplined team environment. The Manager is responsible for leading experienced professionals by creating workforce and staffing plans to ensure availability of resources necessary to accomplish departmental business results. Leads, directs and reviews the work of direct report(s) who exercise latitude and independence in their assignments. Participates in hiring, performance ratings and compensation planning within organization, in accordance with management review and approval. Establishes mentorships and knowledge transfer plans to align with business needs and skillsets. Essential Functions: * Direct, coordinate, control and provide assistance to work group in order to meet assigned objectives * Provide technical direction, as needed, to junior engineers and other team members * Use comprehensive information gathering, analysis and investigation to understand and solve problems * Leverage high reliability, flight-proven, heritage design concepts in order to produce high quality novel designs within an aggressive timeline * Complete assigned projects using design guidelines and established engineering standards * Prepare reports, formal documentation and presentation materials summarizing analysis results and present results to both external and internal groups, including leadership and customers * Participate and present information for Preliminary Design reviews (PDR), Critical Design Reviews (CDR) and Technical Interchange Meetings (TIM) * Interface with outside suppliers/customers and other engineering disciplines to drive designs to closure (Structural, Thermal, Electrical, Manufacturing, Quality) * Strong knowledge and experience with mechanical detailed design and new product development, manufacturing processes, and MCAD modeling tools * Provide regular status updates to Program Management and Project Engineers on technical, cost and schedule performance Qualifications: * Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering and a minimum of 9 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree in Mechanical Engineering and a minimum of 7 years of prior related experience. * Experience working with and leading multi-disciplinary mechanical engineering team through system requirements, design, analysis, test, hardware build, delivery and launch * Strong computer skills in programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point * TS/SCI clearance required Preferred Additional Skills: * Strong proficiency in design of 2D engineering drawings using geometrical dimensioning & tolerancing (GD&T) per ASME Y14.5 standards * Experience in leading engineering teams from conceptual through detailed design phases * Experience building hardware in a high reliability environment * Capable of serving as a design lead and/or integrated product team lead (IPTL), leading and supporting program design reviews (PDR, CDR) * Proficiency working with a product data manager (PDM) software, and familiarity with configuration management best practices * Training and mentoring of new hires and junior engineering staff members * Proficient in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project
