M&A Integration Senior Director is responsible for leading the successful execution of multiple integrations within the Care Solutions portfolio. The scope includes upfront and ongoing engagement with acquired entities ensuring strategic objectives, value drivers and identified synergies are met, while maintaining limited business disruption. The M&A Integration team designs, executes and leads the end to end program to ensure an acquired entity is strategically aligned across people, process and technology within the overall Optum Health business unit, Optum and UHG. The role must be able to develop solid, genuine relationships across all levels (support staff to executive leadership) within Optum, UHG as well as the Acquired Entity (AE). Learning to develop solid knowledge of all Optum/UHG functional areas, with the ability to navigate and engage with leadership as necessary is critical to the M&A integration team’s execution.
The M&A Integration Senior Director Must Be:
- Able to independently provide oversight and management of various functional, business, and third party (i.e., consultants, external agencies) resources across a broad management structure
- Able to travel domestically from coast to coast when necessary, either as requested by others (i.e., Corp Dev or Business Leaders), or independently to problem solve, build relationships, etc.

Primary Responsibilities:
- Oversight and accountability for the end-to-end integration of AE in the Care Solutions portfolio which may include multiple, multi-year, simultaneous integrations
- Direct responsibility for the successful execution of a large scale cross functional program initiative which is defined as highly complex, change oriented and of high visibility
- Interact and collaborate frequently with senior and executive leadership across business segments within Care Solutions, Optum Health and Optum - participates in, and able to comprehend strategic integration planning discussions that align with broader business objectives
- Serve as the primary representative and sponsor from the integration team pre-acquisition close which requires close hold of highly confidential information
- Serve as the point person for escalations, issue management, and resolution across all integration functional areas and the AE; engaging other colleagues or leaders with Optum, UHG or AE as needed
- Manage the teams assigned to each individual integration including capacity planning and workload balance; this includes direct management, training, and mentorship
- Define the strategy and plan development; design the roadmap to execute against the strategy, including other non-acquisition specific initiatives, improvement efforts, or special projects; develop the approach across various levels of integration; manage all elements of the process including execution in areas with little definition and direction; develop appropriate workarounds
- Drive/guide integration risk/benefit assessment process in partnership with cross functional team partners including Corporate Development, Optum Health M&A, and other UHG teams as needed
- Facilitate/lead all critical integration meetings with various stakeholders, including internal and with AE kick-off meetings, functional specific strategy or updates meetings, leadership touch bases/reviews, etc.
- Develop and implement change management and communications model/strategy (through entire life of integration) in partnership with Human Capital and the Corporate Communications Teams
- Lead identified cross functional initiatives (non-acquisition specific), including both ongoing processes (i.e., IT prioritization model) and integration process improvement initiatives across people, process and technology

Required Qualifications:
- 10+ years of experience with increasing responsibilities in operations leadership in the health insurance industry or another highly regulated industry
- 8+ years of experience with program management, finance/analytics, or management consulting
- Experience collaborating with and influencing multiple stakeholders and teams including c-suite leadership, corporate development, legal and compliance, technology, among others
- Experience establishing credibility and rapport with senior executives and senior clinical leadership
- Experience working with highly confidential information
- Written and verbal communication experience including presentation development and delivery
- Understanding of physician practice management and financial, clinical and operational aspects
- Direct or indirect management of teams
- Proficient in MS office suite of applications
- Ability to travel domestically from coast to coast when necessary (up to 20%)

Preferred Qualifications:
- MBA/Master’s Degree in related field
- Extensive experience in healthcare delivery system management, business and financial analysis, relationship management and strategy development
- Experience working with a managed care organization or health insurer, or as a consultant
- Experience with relationship building skills conducive to collaboration; able to work well in a cross-functional, matrix management environment
- A service oriented minded person who “Thinks Customer”
- Detail oriented, excellent presentation skills, solid oral and written communication skill and developed people management skills
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a history of hands-on, detail orientation
- Ability to work independently and able to negotiate and persuade others to gain consensus and team building
