This opportunity is accountable for effective underwriting in the middle market space with working knowledge of Workers Compensation, Commercial Automobile, General Liability, Property and Umbrella. Work as a team to assist with business development and growth through building relationships within assigned customers and brokers. Apply sound decision-making to underwrite business that contributes to a profitable portfolio. Responsibilities include new business production, renewal retention and the overall profitability of assigned book of business within a region. This role contributes to driving regional results with a strong focus on agency relationships.

Primary Responsibilities
• Review, evaluate and price moderately complex business by applying sound underwriting judgment and adhering to company policy and state regulations within established authority
• Ensure review and analysis and execution of the portfolio to progress toward business objectives in regard to retention, rate and profit
• Develop a pipeline of qualified account opportunities within appetite and utilize sales acumen, relationship and creative problem solving to create winning solutions and close deals
• Build and maintain relationships with current and potential brokers and customers by providing personalized and quality customer service
• Research and obtain market intelligence in order to enhance organizational profit goals
• Adherence to the underwriting framework by following internal guidelines, regulatory and legal requirements and reinsurance requirements while demonstrating adoption of good practices to ensure compliance and minimize risk
• Contribute to assigned special projects by assisting with retail underwriting audits, participating in department product and process improvement initiatives

Required Education
Bachelor's Degree or equivalent combination of education and work experience

Required Experience
5-7 years relevant experience

Preferred Education Specifics
Degree in Business, insurance, or related field

Preferred Experience
• P&C industry experience

Preferred Licenses/Certifications
Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU); Certificate of General Insurance (INS); Associate in Insurance Production (AIP)

Preferred Knowledge
• Broad working knowledge of retail underwriting products and insurance concepts
• Broad working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
• Broad working knowledge of underwriting processes and procedures
• Broad working knowledge of laws and regulations related to area of responsibility
• Broad knowledge of risk profiling, pricing tools and loss models
• Retail underwriting business acumen
