Job Description
Overview
The Arizona/Reno/Las Vegas Nevada, and New Mexico Territory Supervisor directly reports to the Transportation and Fleet Manager and is responsible for the daily Supervision of the transportation operations within the assigned territory. This position manages all aspects of transportation discipline including safety and DOT compliances, route adherence, department development, personnel scheduling, workload assignments, cost control, and metric-driven results through performance and territory financial monthly statements.
Responsibilities:
- Participates in the interview process for external and internal candidates, for driver and helper positions.
- Provides day-to-day guidance, coaching, and support, and identifies skill development opportunities for the territory employees.
- Supports and conducts the onboarding process to ensure the new hire training schedule is adhered to and timeline commitments are on target for completion.
- Evaluates new and current driver road proficiency testing and job performance, to ensure requirements are adhered to according to company standards and policies.
- Provides daily managing of transportation operations to ensure high levels of service, production, and quality metrics are achieved.
- Plans staffing levels to ensure adequate coverage. Executes daily reporting mechanisms that provide critical data points to business trends and overall operational performance.
- Responsible for supporting efforts on training, recruiting, counseling, coaching, and disciplinary action, and conducts annual reviews for employees.
- Processes and approves weekly time and attendance, time off requests, and any other payroll exceptions.
- Effectively communicates with front-line employees regarding changes in procedures, initiatives, and program rollouts. Responsible for thorough driver check-in/check-out process
- Tracks progress of routes daily (In dispatch screen, XRS, email communicators).
- Responsible for daily communication with the Customer Service department to ensure any local customer issues are addressed and resolved promptly.
- Provides route feedback to Regional Territory Router for record-keeping and route efficiency to store via software database.
- Ensures routing technology is utilized and routes are executed as designed, validating that tire quantity is properly entered via mobile cast for production accuracy reporting.
- Manages DVIR / Driver’s log / pre-trip / post-trip process ensuring DOT compliance is adhere to daily.
- Reviews all accidents and injuries for the department, ensuring root cause analysis is performed and the solution is executed immediately.
- Works closely with outsourced vendors to maintain a fleet in a prescribed manner.
- Establishes and manages proper workflow to ensure daily, weekly, and monthly DOT / IFTA reporting, and requirements are met.
- Accountable for territory’s budget commitment, ensuring cost metrics are on target enabling us to meet budget on the month-to-month financial statement.
- Holds formal monthly meetings with the Transportation and Fleet Manager to review Territory’s financial statement for the department.
- Performs additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications & Competencies
Education/Work Experience:
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
- College degree preferred.
- 5+ years of previous experience in transportation, routing, DOT maintenance understanding, Knowledge of DOT rules and regulations, and Logistics software.
- Frequent contact with the public and staff under a variety of circumstances requiring the ability to communicate clearly in English (verbal and written) with others of all social and economic levels from a diverse cultural and ethnic population.
- Ability to read and interpret general business writing and to write routine reports, business correspondence, and emails.
- PC Literate with basic knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite of products and Roadnet.
- Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus.
Certificates/Licenses:
- Valid Driver's License, Class A license preferred. Willingness to drive own vehicle occasionally on company business.
- Willing to travel both locally on company business - 25% or more.
