Quidel is looking for a Financial Analyst/ Senior Financial Analyst to support our G&A Business Partner will be a key member of the Financial Planning and Analysis and General and Administrative Teams. This position will be responsible for fostering a strong partnership with the Finance, IT, Legal, HR and Business Unit groups to provide in depth analytical support. Responsibilities will include analysis of general and administrative expenses, budgeting, forecasting, business and operations support, budget to actuals variance analysis and other month end close activities. Additionally, this role will help coordinate the monthly forecasting process by consolidating inputs from multiple stakeholders and reviewing for reasonableness.
Using knowledge of the company's financial systems, this analyst extracts financial data from various accounting and information systems to provide recommendations for improved operational and financial effectiveness of the company. Performs moderately complex statistical, cost and financial analysis of financial reports and data, and prepares subsequent narrative analysis and recommendations for management. The position requires strong analytical and presentation skills as interfacing with multiple functions across the company is critical to the candidate's success. This analyst will also have an interest in combining financial systems skills with analytics to improve business processes and drive performance.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Provides information, inputs and analysis through regular reporting. Supports the ongoing short-term and long-term General and Administrative expense forecasts and assumptions. Leads monthly review and discussion of performance and forecast with management, executive level and Business Unit leaders.
- Supports development of annual operating plans with relation to expenses associated with the General and Administrative function. Collects and studies data to determine costs of business activities. Recommends budget adjustments as needed and may propose other cost improvement measures. Prepares and presents monthly review of budget vs actual results with management team and makes monthly updates to the rolling forecast.
- Assists with creating board presentations in support of quarterly forecast and annual operating plan. Identifies and works with appropriate parties to resolve and/or explain changes from prior versions.
- Coordinates capital expenditure (CapEx) planning process for G&A facilities and operations, works with other members of FP&A team to consolidate into a company level spending plan and presents CapEx to leadership on a monthly basis.
- Analyzes financial data and extracts and defines relevant information. Interprets data for the purpose of determining past financial performance and/or to project a financial probability. Understands line of business budgeting, forecasting and identifies key financial trends. Develops new reporting and analytical tools to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of monitoring the performance of the business.
- Maintains financial reporting systems to ensure alignment with source data. Works with IT to resolve system issues.
- Ensures alignment with HR regarding headcount reporting, includes reporting in monthly Officer Package and explains budget to actuals variances to management on a monthly basis.
- Performs other special projects as assigned including in-depth expense analysis. Participates in the resolution of issues and process improvement opportunities.
Senior Financial Analyst: Education/Experience
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in financial, strategic and/or operation analysis. Experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.
- Bachelor's degree in business, accounting, or finance required. MBA preferred.
- Experience interacting with senior management preferred
- Cost accounting experience a plus.
Financial Analyst: Education/Experience
- Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in financial and/or strategic analysis.
- Bachelor's degree in business, accounting, economics, finance, similar field or equivalent required.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:
- Self-starter. Ability to work with little direction. Independent and highly motivated attitude and strong work ethic. Meets deadlines on a timely basis.
- Strong analytical and communication skills to convey information effectively.
- Ability to distill large amounts of data and translate analysis into compelling presentations.
- Excellent interpersonal skills. Ability to work with all levels in an organization.
- Knowledge of business and management principles involved in financial modeling, strategic planning, and resource allocation.
- High level of accuracy in all work.
- Ability to identify measures or indicators of performance and the actions needed to improve or correct performance, relative to corporate objectives.
- Ability to use logic and reasoning to identify strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
- Demonstrated track record of successful outcomes.
- Solid foundational understanding of accounting and finance concepts.
- Strong working knowledge of MS Office suite of products, including PowerPoint and Excel.
