Maintenance Manager

The general function of the Maintenance Manager is to coordinate and supervise all mechanical, electrical, civil, contract, and instrument & control maintenance to ensure that the power production facilities owned and/or operated by OPC are properly maintained in order to provide reliable and efficient electric power generation in accordance with corporate safety policies and procedures, and all applicable governmental regulations. Establish standards, methods, and procedures to maintain systems, equipment, and unit/plant performance testing. Ensure that an adequate supply of tools, equipment, consumables and spare parts are available to support the maintenance needs of the facilities owned and/or operated by OPC. Responsible for providing reliable and efficient electric power generation in compliance with corporate safety policies and procedures, mandatory electric reliability standards, FERC, EPA, EPD, OSHA, DOT and all applicable governmental regulations.

Job Duties:

  • Supervise day-to-day plant maintenance personnel to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable operation in compliance with warranty requirements, and corporate policies and procedures.
  • Prepare capital and operating budgets for responsibility area; operates within budget and is accountable for actual expenditures in that area.
  • Coordinate development and implementation of technical, mechanical, electrical, civil, and I&C programs to ensure and enhance equipment longevity.
  • Coordinate development and review of maintenance procedures; prepare necessary revisions to assure maximum safety of personnel and equipment, economy of operations, and effective utilization of manpower; assure adherence to developed policies and procedures.
  • Establish, monitor, maintain, evaluate, and re-evaluate cost effectiveness of all maintenance programs.
  • Analyze and resolve maintenance problems to assure continuity and economy of operations.
  • Manage major overhauls and outages; direct and monitor the performance of contractors.
  • Coordinate development and implementation of on-the-job training programs to obtain maximum proficiency of plant maintenance personnel; monitor and evaluate to ensure effectiveness of the training program and maintain active administrative role in employee and labor relations.
  • Identify and ensure that adequate parts, materials, supplies, tools, and test equipment is on hand and in good condition to perform scheduled work.
  • Maintains job related qualifications, system knowledge, and knowledge and understanding of OPC policies and procedures, F.E.R.C. license requirements and Emergency Action Plan, Equal Employment Opportunity and Affirmative Action Plan laws and directives as they apply in all employment practices.

Required Qualifications:

Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.

Experience: Fifteen (15) years of progressively responsible power plant experience in maintaining hydroelectric, thermal electric, or combustion turbine power plants, of which eight (8) years were at a supervisory level.

Licenses, Certifications, and/or Registrations: Valid driver's license, which meets the insurance eligibility requirements under Oglethorpe Power’s Driver Qualification Program.

Specialized Skills:

  • The ability to develop instructions from technical manuals, journals, drawings, and other related material; effectively communicate, both orally and in writing using the English language.
  • Decision making capabilities.
  • Must pass the Basic Aptitude/Skills exam.
  • Ability to use personal computers, including but not limited to word processing, spreadsheets, and database applications.
  • Ability to plan, lay out, assign, supervise, and inspect the work of others.
  • Basic management/supervisory skills.
  • Ability to troubleshoot equipment/system malfunctions.
  • Ability to design modifications to equipment/systems as required to improve plant operations.
  • Ability to design new equipment/system installations as required to improve plant operations.
  • Ability to evaluate predictive maintenance data to determine the condition of the plant equipment.

Travel: 15%

Unusual Hours: This position will require the associate to be on call at any hour to address emergency conditions at the plants, or operational and maintenance problems. Standby duty will be required.

Status: Full-time.
