Position Overview:
The Clean Energy Advisory team is responsible for guiding clients (many of the Fortune 50 Companies) through renewable energy procurements, including initial education, development of a renewable purchasing strategy, and implementation. The team works as a partner to the client’s internal energy and sustainability teams – analyzing the client’s electricity portfolio to understand how new renewable energy contracts would interact with the existing energy strategy and load, educating stakeholders and executives on renewable procurement options and risks, and developing a cohesive procurement strategy to meet their sustainability goals. The Clean Energy Advisor would coordinate internally with the project team, and externally with the client team to execute on the renewable procurement strategy, evaluating costs of different options, identifying key risks, and supporting commercial discussions in the negotiation of renewable power purchase agreements. The Clean Energy Advisor would play a critical role in helping clients to understand options, risks, and obtain executive/corporate approval on the clean energy strategy and definitive agreements.
Job Roles & Responsibilities:
- Manage client relationships by delivering high quality, timely and value-added services, and project management of deals.
- Provide education to clients on electricity markets, clean energy development, and procurement options to reduce scope 2 emissions.
- Create and present clean energy procurement strategies that are aligned with client goals and risk tolerance.
- Serve as a subject matter expert to clients on renewable energy development, renewable purchasing options, electricity market fundamentals.
- Evaluate clean energy projects, client electricity portfolio, and electricity market dynamics to deliver recommendations to clients and identify key risks to be mitigated.
- Understand and interpret the mechanics of energy delivery contracts.
- Prepare and present financial and commercial analysis of various contract structures and renewable purchasing options to clients.
- Lead finance, accounting, and deal approval discussions, including creation of high-quality materials, with senior executives at client companies.
- Help support commercial Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) discussions in conjunction with internal origination team
- Support the Sales team as needed, generating collateral and leading sales calls with prospective clients.
- Serve in a consultant role on specific assignments, including energy projects, risk mitigation, price forecasting, commercial negotiations, and contract
management
Desired Background:
- 5-10 years of relevant experience at any of the following: utility or retailer, renewable developer, energy management or sustainability team at a corporation or institution, energy-related consulting firm, energy or renewable advisory firm
- Experience managing projects or deals involving multiple teams
- Experience leading discussions and giving presentations to a broad audience
- Detailed understanding of power purchase agreements (PPAs) for renewable energy
- Comprehensive understanding of wholesale and retail energy markets, renewable energy development and financing, and corporate energy procurement strategies
Required Skills:
- Must be a strong communicator, both in writing and in presentation skills, as the role involves significant senior level client interaction
- Must possess strong analytical skills to understand energy market fundamentals and translate data into commercial strategies and advice for clients
- Must be highly organized and able to manage multiple client engagements
Work Environment:
- Regular professional, office business setting
- Noise level ranges from low to moderate (if in office setting)
- Noise level ranges from moderate to high (if on construction worksite)
- Some light travel required for occasional in-person client meetings and internal team meetings
