Giant Pictures and Drafthouse Films is seeking a Senior Accountant for its rapidly growing streaming and home entertainment distribution business. This is an opportunity to join a fast-growing company at the intersection of entertainment and technology in a pivotal finance and accounting role. The Senior Accountant will manage general accounting and financial processes of the company, being responsible for all daily accounting tasks, preparing tax documents and updating expense files. Perform financial transactions and post them in the general ledger, carry out relevant administrative duties (e.g. responding to clients via email and handling invoices). Ultimately, you will ensure that the company’s finances run smoothly. The ideal candidate will have a finance/accounting background in film, television or other media, with experience of content distribution, IP licensing and royalties. You will be detail-oriented, thriving in a dynamic, small-team environment where you can have a strong impact identifying pain points within the existing process and proactively building efficiencies and excellence in financial project management.
Responsibilities:
• Bookkeeping: Update master Chart of Accounts listing for additions/changes. Preparation of monthly close journal entries, including general ledger accounts, intercompany entries, bank reconciliations and client chargebacks/recoupments
• Accounts Receivable: administer billing process, including fee reconciliation and client invoicing. Distribute aging receivables reports to management. Point person for revenue collections and past due balances from customers
• Accounts Payable: onboard new suppliers, review monthly fee and expense details – pull back up as needed and ensure proper coding of expenses.
• Responsibility for payroll. Monthly preparation and delivery of American Express corporate card report to each cardholder. Responsible for organizing and importing the reports into the GL
• Royalties & Participations: support the Royalties Accountant by assisting with processing, preparing and calculating quarterly royalty statements. Analyze and process statement royalty data in accordance with contract terms. Review and track recoupable and invoiced costs and minimum guarantees including earn outs and payment collections
• Run financial queries upon staff request requiring processing of large amounts of data. Excel functions: pivots, sorts, formulas, VLOOKUP. Prepare and review management reporting, flag and resolve issues
• Analyze current accounting procedures of the company and recommend improvements where necessary to include integration with, and optimization of, accounting, data, rights management, project management software packages
• Development of internal budgets, forecasts, and projections, plus other FP&A projects as necessary, to assist management with business decision support analyses, ad hoc reporting and analytics
• Maintaining files, contracts, and other relevant documentation using a variety of software packages
• Management of Client Dashboard including revenue pulls and uploads from platforms and managing external BI/data vendors
• End of year organization of all files including preparation of confirmations for audit. Point person dealing with external accountant for annual returns. Manage program/film asset and liabilities and monthly amortization across balance sheets
Qualifications/experience:
• 5+ years of Accounting/Finance experience in a film, television or media setting
• Experience of intellectual property licensing and rights, content distribution, royalties
• Advanced proficiency in Quickbooks and other accounting software
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP’s, SUMIFS, Etc.)
• Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills
• Client service-oriented and fosters positive working relationships
• Well organized with strong time management skills and attention to detail, follows through on multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
• Passion for movies and TV content and knowledge of media, entertainment and technology industries, including key players, growth trends and drivers, new business models
• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting or related field in quantitative analysis
