Job Description
Electra is seeking an experienced Senior Flight Controls Engineer (or Flight Controls IPT Lead position for the right applicant) for our unique hybrid-electric extreme-STOL aircraft family. This may be a Applicants must have a track record of working in a team through an aircraft development and certification program. Participation in a business-jet or sophisticated general aviation aircraft certification would be an advantage.
Responsibilities & Essential Functions
- Lead flight control system design and development from initial architecture through flight testing and vehicle certification.
- Conduct trade studies and define vehicle flight control architecture, including avionics, sensor and actuator selection.
- Implement DO-178C compliant software development processes.
- Development of vehicle flight control laws through desktop simulation, fixed base simulator and flight implementation on aircraft.
- Vehicle system identification flight test planning, execution and data reduction.
- Development of aircraft simulation environment
- Document analysis, prepare and present at gated design reviews to demonstrate the adequacy of the design.
Qualifications & Required Skills
- A strong work ethic and ability to independently meet and lead the areas described by the responsibilities and essential functions.
- C/C++ Embedded software development experience (DO-178C development processes). Competent use of MATLAB and Simulink.
- Expertise in state estimation and filtering of real-world data.
- Strong background in control theory.
- Bachelor's degree in aerospace engineering or related discipline preferred; advanced degree in related discipline strongly preferred.
- 7+ years’ experience in relevant flight controls areas.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the Federal Aviation Regulations (FAR), certification procedures (especially Part 23), and relevant industry standards (i.e. DO-178, DO-160, etc.).
- Licensed pilot preferred (FAA, EASA, PPL, CPL, etc.) but not required.
