Technical Writer Job Description

Reporting to the Head of Content Strategy in the Technology Product organization, you are an experienced technical writer who, ideally, has experience in the fintech/financial services industry. You are a motivated self-starter looking to be part of a creative team, and you are ready to learn from and draft content live in working sessions with subject matter experts (SMEs), such as product managers and software developers.

You are organized and deliver work quickly in iterative components; you know how to read the room and work with various types of people, adding value from the outset. Your work is consistent, concise, and clear. Not only are you a skilled writer, you understand hierarchy, taxonomy, and formatting so that users can easily find exactly what they need.

Principal Responsibilities

We are seeking a professional to create client-facing documentation, which clearly explains how to use our products, provides weekly enhancement/release updates, and offers access to support.

You will also create internal documentation and presentations (live and virtual) for technologists and other members of the firm to empower them via product knowledge, and you will work on a library of targeted documents for various members of our Technology organization (including developers, support, and QA). Your content will be used as source material for our product training program, and you will work closely with our team’s instructional designer.

To begin, you will learn our suite of products, working with experienced technologists and product managers, and you will work with the team as we build a curated content wiki library in Confluence. Working with your teammates, you will develop and socialize a style guide, a dictionary of terms, and a design strategy.

You will need to know – or readily learn – Atlassian Confluence and Jira and a set of supplemental tools (such as, for example, Snagit, Canva, and Adobe Creative Cloud).

Qualifications/Experience
  • 3-15 years, ideally in fintech/financial services
  • Three Cs: Consistent, Concise, and Clear
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Amazing presentation and formatting skills
  • Fast learner and collaborative team member
  • Able to prioritize while working on multiple projects
Tools/Skills
  • Confluence experience preferred, with working knowledge of macros/plug-ins (such as tabs, table filters, and includes/excerpts)
  • Jira experience preferred, particularly to manage and deliver work as a team in sprints
  • Graphics tools exposure, such as Snagit, Canva, and Adobe Creative Cloud
  • Taxonomy/hierarchy and templating experience
  • UI/UX writing experience
  • Interactive learning and video tools software experience a plus
  • Code structure (preferably Java and/or Python) familiarity a plus
Location

You will be based in the New York, Chicago, London, or Dublin office and will work remotely multiple days a week.
