Job Duties & Responsibilities:
The Garage Mechanic is responsible for maintaining, repairing, and overhauling all types of automotive and powered industrial equipment for in-facility and outside delivery purposes and working under the direction of the garage supervisor.
- Repairs and maintains truck cabs and trailers, company automobiles, pickup and delivery trucks, and powered industrial equipment.
- Inspects, tests, and aligns truck and car lights. Maintains electrical systems and controls. Balances wheels to minimize wear on tires and rotates wheels at prescribed mileage intervals. Tunes engines and adjusts equipment to standards set by state DOT for motor vehicle inspections and safety standards.
- Disassembles, inspects, and replaces worn or broken parts. Fits and adjusts new or repaired parts.
- Uses hoist wrenches, gauges, drills, compressors, grinders, or other specialized auto mechanic tools and equipment.
- Performs limited body work and repainting on vehicles after a breakdown or accident.
- Fuels, oils, and greases motor vehicles; changes filters.
- Keeps solvents, cleaners, and other materials properly stored and labeled as to the correct contents.
- Keeps necessary maintenance records including records as required by DOT.
- May drive facility truck to retrieve broken-down vehicles, procure parts and supplies, and to pick up or deliver powered industrial equipment.
- Authorized to do lockout/tagout and should observe all lockout/tagout procedures.
- Regular and punctual attendance is an essential function of this job.
- Employees must proficiently read, speak and understand English.
Requirements:
- CDL required.
- Understand all of the requirements of general mechanic work.
- Work alone in the responsibility of performing the maintenance operations.
- Self motivated and have initiative.
- Work daily overtime, weekends, and holidays when necessary.
- Communicate and work with other employees and managers.
- Possess deliberate qualities, characterized by careful and thorough consideration for the safetyof the drivers or operators of equipment which have been repaired.
- Wear safety shields, hearing protection, and safety glasses with side shields and also protective gloves and an apron when necessary. Goggles or face shields may be required when handling some solvents and cleaners.
- Valid and appropriate driver's license and an acceptable driving record.
