Job Summary
The Human Resources Generalist is the daily HR contact for employees and managers. This role is diverse in nature with responsibilities that include managing details of the full employee life-cycle, benefits administration, compensation, compliance, system administration, performance management, leave administration, payroll support, and employee engagement efforts. The HR Generalist manages the on-boarding and off-boarding processes. This position all provides support to Talent Acquisition as needed.
Essential Job Duties
- Acts as the first line of contact for HR needs and questions of both managers and employees with the goal of maximizing employee performance, improving employee engagement and ensuring compliance.
- Manages the employee life cycle including on-boarding, off-boarding, exit meetings, and leaves-of-absence.
- Supports managers with employee changes such as promotions, department/role changes, and performance management efforts.
- Participates in annual benefits open enrollment, benefits questions, and monthly benefit invoice auditing.
- Systems administration for all portals and tools including the HRIS, benefits management system, performance management, LMS (Learning Management System), retirement platform, and stock option system.
- Manages all CA required logistics including posters and reporting.
- Oversees and supports workers compensation claims and reporting as needed.
- Supports employee relation cases as required.
- Participates in the Safety Committee and supports logistics for office safety.
- Actively participates in the Events Team and employee engagement efforts.
- Supports Talent Acquisition in scheduling interviews, interviewing, or other tasks as needed.
- Additional responsibilities, tasks and duties will be assigned and required as needed.
Education/Experience/Skills
- Typically requires a minimum of 8 years of related experience and a Bachelor's degree in a related discipline, or at least 6 years and a Masters degree, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience working in a small and growing and/or start-up organization preferred.
- Life sciences and/or high-tech industry experience strongly desired.
- Must have a diverse Human Resources background including employee relations, performance management, process implementation, training and development, leave management, compliance, benefits, systems administration, and employee engagement programs.
- Strong knowledge of HR compliance, legislation, regulations, industry trends, best practices, new developments, and applicable laws regarding human resources (COBRA, FLSA, FMLA, ERISA, HIPAA, ACA, and other Federal and State of California regulations).
- HR coursework and/or certification desired.
- Must be nimble and comfortable with rapidly changing priorities and responsibilities.
- Must be skilled at managing a significant workload and obtaining successful results, taking on additional responsibility and managing priorities as needed.
- Must be proactive and effective in achieving solutions and using data to achieve results.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to produce accurate, punctual reports/information, as required, and thoroughly share information with others. Must be able to read, write and speak effectively.
- Exceptional listening skills with the ability to seek constructive feedback, build relationships, promote teamwork, and remain flexible, humble, and open-minded.
- Capable of following realistic plans, goal setting, resource management, contingency planning, coordinating, and cooperating with others.
- Capable of working thoughtfully under pressure and in a timely manner.
