General Summary
Operates company's internal data communications systems. Plans, designs and implements local and wide-area network solutions between multiple platforms and protocols (including IP and VOIP). Supports/troubleshoots network issues and coordinates with vendors for installation of such items as routers and switches. Works on project implementation. Provides training and assists with proposal writing. Conducts project planning, cost analysis and vendor comparisons. The responsibilities of this role include:
Working independently with little supervision.
Taking responsibility for own work and making decisions with more significant impact, influencing overall program or project success, finances, and/or the ability to meet objectives; errors are not readily apparent due to the complexity of work process/product or time between decisions and results; errors typically result in significant expenditure of time, resources, and funds to correct.
Using verbal and written communication skills to convey complex and/or detailed information to multiple individuals/audiences with differing knowledge levels. Role may require strong negotiation and influence, communication to large groups or high-level constituents.
Having a moderate amount of influence over key organizational decisions (e.g., is consulted by senior leadership to provide input on key decisions).
Using deductive and inductive problem solving is required; multiple approaches may be taken/necessary to solve the problem; often information is missing or conflicting; advanced data analysis and interpretation skills are required.
Exercising exceptional creativity is needed to innovate new ideas and develop innovative products/ processes without established objectives or known parameters.
Principal Duties & Responsibilities
Ensures systems designs adhere to company architecture standards, and develops company architecture standards.
Serves as a technical lead on multiple large projects/systems, assigns work to a project team, and works on more advanced tasks to complete a project.
Oversees the implementation and maintenance of assigned enterprise infrastructure systems to ensure successful deployment and operation by researching, formulating, and monitoring processes and procedures for the introduction and maintenance of services.
Builds and maintains partnerships with cross-functional leadership to understand business needs and functional specifications, and translates business requirements into technical specifications that support integrated and sustainable designs for complex infrastructure systems.
Provides expert consultation and technical advice on IT infrastructure planning, engineering, and architecture for assigned systems by assessing the implications of IT strategies on infrastructure capabilities.
Drives technical conversations to ensure the right path is followed to project completion.
Leads the development and modification of solutions by identifying technical solutions to business problems, and communicates solutions to business partners.
Leads partnerships with counterparts in various IT Teams (e.g., database, operations, technical support) throughout system development and implementation.
Develops, reviews, and validates technical specifications and documentation for complex or multi-dimensional solutions.
Communicates within and outside of project team to resolve conflicts in implementation schedules, design challenges, and other complexities.
Oversees existing systems to ensure appropriate resources are in place to maintain service levels and meet new demands.
Brings individuals together from different backgrounds, locations, and cultures to accomplish project goals.
Re-scopes projects based on discussions with business partners, identifies resources, delegates work, and reviews the work of team members in order to address changing timelines or priorities.
This is a senior position on the data center networking team responsible for design, implementation and operation of Qualcomm's world-wide data center networks and load balancing architectures. We are looking for an expert in current data center networking and load balancing technologies, including but not limited to: routing, switching, application delivery control/load balancing, cloud networking (public and private), virtualization, orchestration, and automation.
This position is expected to be a technology evangelist and advocate regarding forward-looking data center networking technologies such as cloud networking (Kubernetes, OpenStack, VMware NSX, etc.), network virtualization, and automation.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Frequently transports between offices, buildings, and campuses up to mile.
Frequently transports and installs equipment up to 20 lbs.
Performs required tasks at various heights (e.g., standing or sitting).
Monitors and utilizes computers and test equipment for more than 6 hours a day.
Continuous communication which includes the comprehension of information with colleagues, customers, and vendors both in person and remotely.
