Eckerd Connects' Project Bridge provides transitional services to boys and girls ages 11-21 reintegrating back to their home communities from residential commitment programs. Through an innovative partnership, this program supports the mission and vision of the Florida Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) to increase post-placement stability of youth through transition coordination from residential placement.

Position Concept
This position will lead support activities for life, academic, vocational and evidence-based skill building through the use of various curricula. Provide supervision to ensure the safety and appropriate social behavior of youth. The position will closely coordinate activities with the Transition Coordinator.

Essential Functions

  • Maintain socially appropriate behavior of youth through sanctioned and designed de-escalation skills and disciplinary procedures.
  • Serve as a positive role model to youth at all times through appearance, attitude, and behavior.
  • Serve as support for implementing and facilitating remedial education, tutoring and GED prep.
  • Serve as a mentor for skill building and employability development.
  • Assist with coordination and transportation of youth to obtain documents necessary for employment.
  • Logistically coordinate and schedule youth in the assigned Circuit for transportation to and from services.
  • Transport youth to job sites for interviews, community service projects and/or any other request performed by the Transition Coordinator.
  • Maintain sight and sound supervision of youth. Provide a safe and secure environment for all staff and youth.
  • Implement the behavior management system and documentation as necessary.
  • Responsible for safe operation of Project Bridge Transition vehicles assigned during duty.

Position Specifications
Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. Two years of college coursework in social or human service field preferred.
Experience: One year full time paid or volunteer experience working with at-risk or delinquent youth preferred.
Skills: Able to present creative recreational or leisure activities. Requires a good understanding of group dynamics, group leadership and crisis intervention. Group management, observation, and documentation procedures. Prefer strong understanding of juvenile delinquent rehabilitation methods within a residential program. Will be required to comply with training as identified by contract. Requires strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
Physical Demands: Job requires constant supervision of clients on-site. Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds. Extensive walking and standing involved. Must be capable of transporting clients. Must be free of communicable diseases as defined by the state and to the extent that knowledge is attainable under the law. Must be in good physical health and emotionally stable.
Other: Must meet state background screening requirements.
Travel: Must be able to meet requirements for Eckerd’s Auto Insurance and be able to drive for business purposes. Must maintain an appropriate and valid state driver’s license and meet DJJ youth transportation eligibility requirements.
