Engineering Manager

Position Summary:

The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the Engineering functions that provide capabilities and project management expertise to support the Manufacturing Strategy. Organize the Engineering team to ensure that standard project management strategies are implemented effectively and efficiently. Direct the activities of personnel responsible for implementing all applicable maintenance and reliability standards for the purpose of inspecting, maintaining, monitoring, and improving the integrity and reliability of plant equipment.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Accountable for all engineering aspects of large and small-scale projects and ensure all associated documentation follows local, state, and federal standards and guidelines related to EHS, Quality, and Regulatory including factory acceptance tests and validation protocols.
  • Ensure engineering work requests and projects are effectively delivered to support Manufacturing Strategy. Includes project leadership through the stage gate process, project execution, and handoff to the operations, maintenance, and reliability functions.
  • Develop engineering personnel capability at all levels of the organization with the right skill sets and competencies to become a high-performing team aligned to the site and regional objectives.
  • Promote a zero-loss problem solving mindset by engaging in Root Cause Failure Analyses (RCFA) to document significant issues and ensure learnings are achieved and shared.
  • Champion the continuous improvement results driven environment through collaboration with R&D, Manufacturing. Safety, and Quality. Encourage CI efforts of all aspects of capital project execution through application of project management standards to achieve or exceed Site commitments.
  • Develop the Early Management Pillar and work collaboratively with both Supply Chain Operations as well as the R&D functions.
  • Create reporting and updates that gauge the progress and results of various projects and activities.
  • Promote and ensure Barr’s safe work culture for all employees, contractors, and visitors achieving the site’s goal of zero safety and environmental incidents.
  • Successfully interact, participate, and manage development of capital expenditure budgets to meet short, medium, and long-term goals.
  • Partner with Maintenance Manager to monitor and manage site maintenance fixed costs to ensure budget limits are achieved.
  • Effective collaborator with sales and customer teams.
  • Effectively communicate and convey ideas to all levels within the organization from the floor to the Executive Team.


Qualifications/Experience:

  • Minimum Bachelor's degree in a technical field – preferably Mechanical, Chemical or Electrical Engineering.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of manufacturing experience, preferably in a chemical process &/or Consumer packaged Industry.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of managing capital & departmental budgets
  • Minimum of five (5) of experience in engineering, project management, capital projects.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in a leadership/supervisor role.
  • Proven knowledge of Maintenance systems.
  • Working knowledge of TPM (Total Productive Maintenance), especially Early Equipment Management and Planned Maintenance, highly desirable.
  • Experience reading engineering schematics and equipment drawings.
