StoryBuilt is looking for a talented individual to be a part of our growing operations team as the VP of Construction in Austin. We are seeking an industrious, self-starter with experience in mixed-use and residential construction types and a background with institutional partners. This position reports to the SVP - Construction.
Top candidates for the position will have extensive experience in full life-cycle construction management, including: budgeting, bidding, contracting, and project close-out / delivery, as well as experience in operating in a vertically integrated company with institutional JV structures. The ability to create and implement processes, manage construction operations, institutional level reporting, assess talent, and develop team members are critical to the success of this role.

Primary Responsibilities
- Oversee all construction projects and related activities in coordination with the development department
- Lead and manage all aspects of the Austin construction team to meet project goals (schedule, budget, quality, customer experience, institutional partner requirements, etc)
- Responsible for driving subcontractor performance to ensure high quality work and adherence to contract agreements, budget and schedule
- Prepare and monitor all progressive cost estimates, budget updates as prepared by subcontractor(s) and/or cost consultant
- Oversee contract administration, negotiate with and direct the work of subcontractors and other construction-related vendors.
- Prepare monthly partner and internal reporting, including schedule, budget, change orders, construction progress and procurement activities.
- Review design progress documents, construction documents, and specifications to ensure adherence to established project budget.
- Prepare construction updates for the development group, ownership and partners.
- Lead coordination between relevant agencies, design team and subcontractors to ensure all permits, approvals and applications required for and during construction are obtained.
- Encourage a safe working environment.
- Establish construction processes and SOPs for all aspects and responsibilities of the construction team (reporting, schedule creation, bidding/contracting, rfi/submittals, close-out, etc) in conjunction with StoryBuilt's Project Controls team
- Work with department heads to integrate construction processes within existing StoryBuilt systems
- Mentor and develop team personnel
Preferred Qualifications
- Desire to work in a forward thinking, innovative environment, where managers and leaders are consistently evaluating processes and performance for improvements.
- 15 years' experience in construction management, and field operations.
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field.
- LEED, LEAN, AIA, EIT or PE, CHC and / or other related industry accreditations preferred.
- Experience with and monitoring of monthly management reports (i.e. customer satisfaction, schedule reporting, quality inspections, and budgets).
- Proven track record of holding subcontractors accountable to established policies and procedures, quality standards, scheduling criteria, and scopes of work.
- Knowledge of and relationships with local trades that translate to our product types.
- Stable leadership capabilities with a desire to grow and manage a team.
- Accuracy; keen attention to detail.
- Experience in evaluating, hiring and leading teams.
- Driven to find creative business solutions to obstacles where no typical answer exists.
- Strong interpersonal skills to shepherd project/communities with diverse groups of internal and external stakeholders.

- Have a proven track record of utilizing a construction management software; Procore preferred.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications with advanced skills in Excel.
- Advanced MS Project knowledge, with adherence to CPM sched. practices/strategies.
- Time management, priority setting, and follow up a must.
- Ability to create and implement work plans, prepare and analyze financial statements/documents, and compose letters.
- Ability to develop systems, implement, train, and manage.
