Senior Credit Officer

ATEL Capital Group is offering an exciting, career opportunity to an experienced individual in both commercial leasing and venture credit. Our unique and long-term experience in both the lending and leasing businesses has made ATEL one of the most competitive private capital firms in the U.S. Equipment leasing to the Fortune 1000 includes planes, ships, construction and transportation vehicles while venture debt services focuses on providing growth capital and equipment loans to emerging growth companies. With our two distinct business lines we are uniquely positioned to fulfill the needs of two very different types of borrowers. As the Head of Risk and Credit, you will be responsible for facilitating these contracts quickly and profitably with a focus on principal/interest safety.


As an international financial services company founded in 1977, ATEL Capital Group has approximately $1 billion in assets under management. We are headquartered in the San Francisco financial district and are currently seeking a Risk Credit Manager with at least 10 years of experience analyzing potential leases to larger companies. Additional lending experience with pre-IPO, venture capital backed companies would be very beneficial. This opportunity will include extensive on-the-job training with ATEL’s current chief credit officer of 30 years who will be retiring in the following year.


Required Skills/Abilities:

• Must be an excellent communicator

• Good organizational and follow up skills

• Understanding of the risks that can occur with emerging growth companies

• Advanced financial analysis skills (ratio analysis, trend analysis, cash flow analysis)

• Advanced collection skills: telephone, written, workout, litigation and bankruptcy

• Excel skills a must: ability to work with pivot tables a plus

• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software

• Solid knowledge and understanding of contract law

• Ability to collaborate and work with the needs of multiple departments including accounting, audit, legal, asset management and sales/originations team members

• Ability to adapt knowledge gained from prior experience to use for current needs, especially with respect to documentation issues


Must live (or be willing to relocate) within a reasonable commute to the financial district of San Francisco


Education and Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in finance or business field required


Minimum 10 years’ experience in the following areas:


• Small, middle and large market leasing and lending including from a strict balance sheet orientation and from an asset-based lender perspective

• Experience with portfolio administration (i.e., credit investigation and analysis, documentation, collections, litigation.)

• Experience with captive finance, direct origination and third part originated transactions, including the purchase of portfolios.

• Venture lending credit experience is a significant advantage

• Negotiating leases and loans with both internal and client legal teams a must

• Experience with problem loan/lease workouts

• Portfolio administration and addressing the requirements of accounting department and auditors highly preferred
