Job Description
- POSITION SUMMARY
- Under the general direction of the Director, Materials Management and direct supervision of the Manager, Patient Transportation, the Linen Worker delivers clean hospital linens, linens items, and specialty items within the hospital and facility wide and collects soiled linens for pick-up by hospital contracted laundry service.
- KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Delivers linens and linen items to hospital and facility-wide areas within established linen exchange cart system.
- Sorts, inspects, and folds hospital linens and specialty linen items received daily from the hospital contracted laundry service. Restocks hospital linen exchange carts and assigned linen storage areas.
- Responds to linen requests via the IKE linen site and maintains departmental protocol.
- Marks all new hospital linens and linen items for identification.
- Records all clean linen weights delivered and returned to facility-wide areas and soiled linen weights for pick-up by contract laundry service.
- Prioritize workload based on hospital census.
- Assists in training new staff.
- Participates in bi-annual department/hospital linen inventory.
- Drives hospital vehicle for linen delivery between Holt Ave. warehouse and Elliot Hospital and other areas as required. Keeps the vehicle clean, reports items requiring repair or replacement, maintains fuel/fluid levels, immediately reports any/all damage to vehicle. Keeps vehicle locked while unattended, never leaves keys in vehicle. Maintains good driving record, obeys traffic regulations and drives defensively.
- Meets infection control standards by performing quarterly exchange cart cleanings and cart cover replacements.
- On a daily basis, cleans shelves, cabinets and areas designated for clean linen storage.
- Attends departmental/hospital-sponsored safety, infection control or informational in-services as requested.
- REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
- Basic computer skills.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Ability to prioritize workload.
- Ability to operate up to a 26-foot box truck safely.
- EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/LICENSURE
- Education: High school diploma or GED is strongly preferred.
- Experience: Healthcare/laundry linen experience preferred. A minimum of one year of box truck driving experience preferred.
- Certification/Licensure: Valid Driver s License required. Must be 18 years of age or older. Must be able to provide driver s record report from state of current driver s. Must be able to pass DOT physical.
- Software/Hardware: Experience with LinenHelper software preferred.
- OTHER REQUIREMENTS
- Schedule: Monday through Friday, rotating weekends and holidays. Must be flexible and available as situations warrant.
