Job Description
Brookfield Properties has an immediate need for a Property Accounting Manager at the corporate office in Chicago, IL.
This position is primarily responsible for training, supervising and reviewing the work of Property Accountants to ensure accurate and timely recording & reporting of property level financial statements in accordance with GAAP and Brookfield Properties Retail Group Policies.

Responsibilities
Train, supervise and review the work of 1-3 Property Accountants to ensure accurate and timely recording and reporting of property level financial statements in accordance with GAAP and Brookfield Properties Retail policies
Manage all aspects of the monthly, quarterly and annual accounting close and financial reporting cycles including schedules/responses related to audits, and inquiries from internal and external business partners (e.g. Asset Management, Financial Reporting team)
Achieve/maintain an in-depth knowledge of his/her assigned properties, and communicate significant issues impacting the financial results with Property Accounting Director
Document and record ownership-level transactions/adjustments based relevant legal documents (e.g. debt agreements, purchase and sales contracts ad joint venture agreements)
Research and analyze the treatment of transactions based on Brookfield Properties Retail Group policies, accounting pronouncements and regulatory requirements
Ensure compliance with Sarbanes Oxley; enforcing stated internal controls and recommending additional procedures to ensure adequate controls, policies and procedures are in place
Demonstrate an understanding of how his/her properties are reported within the external accounting/reporting structure (e.g. how transactions impacting his/her properties are disclosed within the 10Q)

Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED required
Bachelor's degree in accounting/business or related field
CPA candidate strongly preferred
Minimum 5 years progressive accounting experience
Minimum 2 years supervisory experience preferred
Demonstrated staff management experience and an ability to work collaboratively and effectively with all levels
Strong personal initiative, enthusiasm, results orientation and resourcefulness; exhibits sense of ownership and a commitment to achieving the organization's goals and an ability to overcome obstacles
Broad knowledge of accounting principles and practices (GAAP), financial policies and procedures and internal controls
Deadline-focused; organized; problem-solving skills
Strong team orientation; willingness to help larger team meet goals and responsibilities
Intermediate level Excel skills
Experience with ERP general ledger (e.g. JD Edwards) preferred
Experience within public/industry accounting preferred
Experience with aspects of real estate accounting (e.g., reviewing lease info)
