This role is highly visible in the Optum Growth Office and will have degree of execution and planning- oriented responsibilities specific to setting strategy and managing the development critical projects in service to the enterprise. This position requires subject matter expertise in program development and management, project management, scope definition, risk identification, primary and secondary research. The person in this role will be a critical member of cross-functional teams responsible for designing and delivering strategic initiatives that cross business segments and operating groups, taking point on project coordination and execution, defining performance and results, and serving as a subject matter expert for the Growth Office. This role will require a keen sense of curiosity and desire to solve the complex problems and challenges our growth teams face. This role will focus on go-to-market activities, strategic collaboration with the Consumer Office, marquee client engagement and strategic planning. The work will be executed in collaboration with Product, Finance, Sales, Client Management, Research and Development, Marketing, and the Consumer Office. This role will include non-standard requests and a problem-solving skill set.

The General Manager, Growth Initiatives will be involved in evaluating Optum Growth Office performance and planning specific to product performance, market performance, and the evaluation of external forces that Optum may face in meeting our goals and objectives. This role will participate as a member of highly matrixed teams performing analytical, experimental, investigative, and other fact-finding work that supports the Growth Office meeting its aggressive goals.

Key Deliverables

Key deliverables will include collaboration with Optum Insight, Optum Health and Optum Rx:

  • Support go-to-market planning, process, and evaluation
  • Collect and classify information to assess product viability as related to our ability to meet Growth Office targets and commissions
  • Develop a stage gate process to validate the effectiveness of the products in the enterprise portfolio
  • Support an ongoing forward-looking assessment of where the market will be in 3-5 years and what buyers needs will be in the present and the future
  • Triangulate market insights to help inform growth strategy, product strategy and market strategy
  • Analyze and interpret data to identify trends, patterns, and opportunities for the Optum growth team
  • Support development of Optum target, sales and quota setting processes in close partnership with the Optum Growth & Commercial office
  • Identify, establish, and implement frameworks, processes, and tools to help improve sales efficiency and client management retention
  • Work across sales leadership, sales team and sales infrastructure and support development of the enterprise sales competencies, training strategy and roadmap

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate and apply understanding of Optum’s business
  • Maintain awareness of best practices and approaches related to the growth and sales discipline
  • Conduct current state analysis to gather current business, functional and non-functional processes
  • Document future state with eye on what problem will be solved and what will be improved
  • Anticipate customer needs and proactively develop solutions to meet them
  • Serve as a key resource on complex or critical issues
  • Solve complex problems using data and fact-based decision making
  • Perform complex conceptual analyses
  • May lead project teams
  • Contribute to training program needs specific to cohorts and curriculum
  • Motivate and inspire other team members

Required Qualifications:

  • College degree or MBA
  • 3+ years of healthcare experience
  • 3+ years of experience or working in a Sales or Product growth organization
  • 3+ years of experience in tracking, planning projects, working with large data sets and making data-driven analytical decisions
  • Intermediate level of proficiency with MS Project, Excel, Visio, PowerPoint and SharePoint

  • Ability to communicate ideas clearly and concisely
  • Excellent time management, organizational, and prioritization skills and ability to balance multiple priorities

Colorado, Connecticut or Nevada Residents Only: The salary range for Colorado residents is $82,100 to $146,900. The salary range for Connecticut / Nevada residents is $90,500 to $161,600. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
