Nuclear Medicine Technologist

Nuclear medicine technologists must:
Demonstrates knowledge of direct patient care by evaluating the patient, verifying patient ID, and related information to assure appropriate procedure is performed; explains the procedure to the patient; prepares patient for the procedure by obtaining and recording patient history and consent form (if applicable); ensures patient comfort, privacy, and safety during the procedure; monitors condition of the patient and medical equipment that may be disturbed due to the nature of the exam and report changes to patient care services
Evaluates and maintains a quality control program for instrumentation to ensurecredibility and reliability; operates all equipment used in nuclear medicine; utilizes appropriate techniques to ensure quality diagnostic images and laboratory results; procures, prepares, ensures quality, calculates, identifies, documents, administers, disposes of, stores, and safely handles radiopharmaceuticals; displays proficiency in PACS; provides proper radiation protection for patients, self and others (uses lead aprons, lead gloves, and gonadal shielding when appropriate)
Participates in performance improvement projects; assists department in achieving successful results in all federal and state and local agency audits
Participates in the education/instruction of students and the orientation of new staff
Required: Registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology (ARRT) and/or certified by the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB); current license in the state of Ohio; current BLS certification
