Primary Responsibilities:




  • Lead daily workflow and supervise the OI Billing Manager team. OI billing includes contract billing and project costing billing

  • Oversee processing standards and department SLAs

  • Review and approve invoices over Billing Manager threshold

  • Build and maintain cross-functional team relationships across Optum to meet business needs and improve overall quality of work

  • Advise on the interpretation of contracts to create and maintain billing and revenue rules in the ERP tool. Provide guidance/approval on exceptions to standard procedure and be a liaison with the Sales, Renewal, and Growth Operations teams

  • Set direction for the processes and procedures for accurate and timely billing, ensuring best practices. Ensure all department procedures are kept current.

  • Review and oversee the creation of training materials and ensure employees are adequately trained to perform their roles.

  • Set the tone for the OI Billing organization culture and participate in staff performance management

  • Review and identify areas of improvement in productivity and quality measures of the team

  • Oversee the maintenance of adequate internal accounting process documentation and controls and provide guidance on best practice when needed

  • Lead the audit process and work with internal and external auditors as needed

  • Provide operational and technical accounting expertise to ensure compliance with GAAP, Company policies, and other applicable regulations.

  • Oversee the development and maintenance of internal control structure and procedures for GAAP and SOX compliance

  • Resolve and follow up on high-level and/or escalated customer service issues

  • Create an environment of high-performance standards for the team and encourage team to perform at a standard of excellence

  • Provide oversight and guidance to billing managers when errors occur and assist in the communication of those adjustments effectively to customer and internal stakeholders

  • Other duties as assigned to support the mission and values of the team

Required Qualifications:




  • Bachelor's Degree (or higher) in Business, Accounting, or Finance

  • 6+ years of demonstrated progression in a business-to-business billing

  • Experience resolving customer related issues

  • Experience with pricing and revenue structures

  • 3+ years of supervisory experience with direct reports

  • Experience prioritizing and managing demanding workloads with concurrent deadlines

  • Proficiency and work experience using Microsoft Excel (creating pivot tables and using filters)

  • Ability to use proper discretion when dealing with confidential information exhibiting a high level of integrity





Preferred Qualifications:




  • Experience in a large-scale ERP environment, preferably PeopleSoft ERP

  • Contract and project costing billing experience (time and material)

  • Salesforce Experience

  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal relationship building and communication (written and verbal) skills

  • Demonstrates an emphasis on team and corporate culture

  • Demonstrated ability to work in a matrixed organization and with cross-functional partners

  • Proven excellent process management and improvement skills.

  • High energy, high initiative, detail oriented and innovative individual

  • Solid analytical skills with a process improvement / automation focus

  • Assertive, self-starting personality with a customer service attitude

  • Ability to deal with ambiguity and change

  • Experience supervising other people managers

  • Ability to act decisively and proactively, anticipating change, and modify plans/timetables as needed

Colorado, Connecticut or Nevada Residents Only: The salary range for Colorado/Connecticut/Nevada residents is $97,300 to $176,900. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
