qPCR/Microbiology Technician
Job Description
Lexar Labs is seeking a full-time entry-level qPCR/Microbiology Technician to be a part of our growing team in our CAP-certified clinical laboratory located in Lexington, KY. Lexar Labs is a clinical reference lab that specializes in high complexity and specialized testing. The successful applicant will perform DNA/RNA extractions and qPCR testing via Thermofisher’s QuantStudio suite of systems. This is a great opportunity for recent college graduates!
Primary Responsibilities:
Minimum B.S. in Chemistry, Biology or Microbiology
Competencies:
Primary Responsibilities:
- Routine nucleic acid extraction and qPCR testing on patient specimens
- Report results following standard operating procedures for patient specimens, proficiency samples and quality controls
- Serve as a technical resource, providing problem solving, troubleshooting, interpreting/consulting and verification of specimen quality and test results
- Assist with the validation of instrumentation and methodologies
- Provide staff and management with timely information and constructive, actionable feedback
- Assist with maintaining CAP and CLIA regulatory compliance
Minimum B.S. in Chemistry, Biology or Microbiology
Competencies:
- Knowledge of basic PCR/qPCR terminology
- Ability to operate and maintain qPCR systems
- Ability to work with accuracy and speed in a team-oriented environment
- Effective written and verbal communication
- Ability to manage detailed information with minimal errors and maximum accuracy
- Ability to handle stressful situations caused by high volume and deadlines
- Adherence to company safety regulations, department policies and procedures
- Ability to speak, hear, and see
- Must be able to stand for long periods of time
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
- Work in a cool temperature environment
