Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY
This is a seasonal position responsible for the Draper City Trails and Open Space maintenance program. Considerable emphasis is placed on safety procedures, working in a team oriented environment, and operating equipment ranging from small hand tools up to heavy equipment. Candidate must be 16 or older.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Constructs and maintains trails.
• Maintains City facilities and trails and open spaces.
• Operates and maintains vehicles and equipment.
• Completes work orders and prepares reports and a daily work log.
• Miscellaneous repairs and maintenance.
• Performs other related duties as directed.
• Some weekends & evening work may be required
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Must be a high school graduate or G.E.D. equivalent and must be 18 years or older. Must possess the ability to learn aspects of parks, trails and open space system related maintenance and repairs. Must possess a valid Utah Driver’s License and the ability to operate a truck towing a trailer. Must possess a Utah State Department of Agriculture Pesticide Applicator license or obtain one within thirty days of hire. Candidate must pass criminal background check and pre-employment drug screen.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
1. The ability to learn aspects of park/trails and open space system and related maintenance and repairs.
2. The ability and knowledge to effectively operate equipment.
3. Relative knowledge of the policies, procedures, equipment, and materials required for effective park/trails and open space related operations, maintenance, and repairs.
4. Ability to perform heavy manual tasks for extended periods of time.
5. Knowledge of State of Utah driver’s license rules and regulations.
6. Must be able to follow specific and general instructions; learn and follow standard safety practices and procedures inherent to operating equipment and performing job responsibilities.
7. Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing; perform duties in a manner that demonstrates respect, integrity, courtesy and kindness; organize assigned work and develop effective work methods.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
Temporary seasonal position.
Forty (40) hours per week, as needed, for up to 6 months.
$14.50/hr
$14.75/hr for returning workers
If you work 800 or more hours during the 6 month seasonal period, you will be eligible to receive a $200 longevity bonus upon separation.
M-F (some weekends required)
7:00am - 3:30pm
WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Must be able to lift at least 80 pounds. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, walk, sit, use hands, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, talk, hear and/or smell with or without reasonable accommodations.
Performance of duties may require working in varied weather conditions such as extreme cold or hot conditions. Work will occur across uneven terrain, including hills, slopes, grades, and wetlands in both forested and open areas, which may present numerous slipping and tripping hazards such as rocks and tree roots, mossy stones or logs, mud and water, or loose gravel. Distances walked may frequently exceed several miles per day, often while carrying tools or other equipment. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles & pollens, outside weather conditions, and high levels of noise.
Working hours may include weekends and holidays as needed.
