Psychiatric Nurse (LPN)
A health services network in Virginia is currently seeking a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to join their staff as a Psychiatric Nurse (RN).
Responsibilities:
The Psychiatric Nurse (LPN) will:
- Administer injections and take vital signs
- Assess individuals’ response to medications, monitoring for therapeutic effectiveness and potential side effects
- Provide educational information to individuals, their families and Behavioral Health Services Division staff regarding psychotropic medications, effects and potential side effects
- Deliver medications and administer injections to county individuals at the Gretna facility monthly
- Document pertinent data, observations and services in client records according to established regulations
- Interface with Division medical providers and staff, private doctors and pharmacists, in a pleasant, cooperative manner to facilitate individual services
- Participate in appropriate administrative and clinical meetings
- Complete required MIS and billing forms
- Administer first aid for individuals and staff in the event of a medical emergency
- Perform other duties, as needed
Qualifications:
- Completion of a Practical Nursing program
- VA Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)
- Experience with drawing bloods and administering medications
- Thorough understanding of psychotropic medications, their effects and potential side effects for adults and children.
- Knowledge of mental disorders, substance use disorders, diagnostic categories, treatment modalities, and intervention techniques for adults and children.
- Comprehensive knowledge of medication administration and recording procedures.
- Thorough understanding of universal precautions and exposure control procedures
- Solid understanding of basic Counseling techniques
- Solid understanding of confidentiality laws
- Thorough knowledge of approved medical abbreviations
- Solid assessment, clinical, and documentation skills
- Patient oriented
- Great interpersonal skills
- Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
- Strong attention to detail
- Highly organized
