We are currently looking for a qualified Maintenance Assistant to join our Healthcare Organisation.

Reports To:

The Maintenance will report to the Director of Maintenance.

Job Overview:

The Maintenance Worker maintains the facility plant and essential mechanical, electrical and resident care equipment in safe operating condition. Services provided are consistent with the Life Safety Code of the National Fire Protection Association and with all state and federal laws and regulations.

Responsibilities and Duties:

• Maintains the emergency power system to ensure the availability of power to all entrances, exits, fire detection alarms and extinguishing equipment and life support systems in the event electrical supplies are interrupted.
• Maintains essential equipment (e.g. nursing unit/medication room refrigerators, refrigerator/freezer, laundry equipment, etc.) in safe operating condition.
• Maintains and adjusts all facility general equipment as well as any resident equipment (e.g. wheelchairs, beds, furniture, etc.) under proper guidance if necessary.
• Ensures the availability of potable water to essential areas in the event of loss of normal water supply.
• Checks facility hot water systems on a regular basis to evaluate water temperatures in essential locations of the facility. Adjust the hot water system to eliminate hazards for facility residents, staff and others.
• Maintains resident call system to ensure a functioning communication system from rooms, toilets and bathing areas.
• Inspects physical plants for any signs of rodents or pests. In cooperation with Housekeeping Department, it implements an effective pest control system to eliminate any rodents and pests.
• Maintains adequate and comfortable lighting level, appropriate for tasks, without glare. Lighting supports independent functioning and task performance of residents.
• Maintains facility ventilation system to provide good air movement with acceptable temperature, humidity and odour levels and to eliminate drafts and provide adequate smoke exhaust.
• Provides general labour as needed.
• Responds to emergency maintenance needs promptly.
• Cooperates with other departments to identify and accommodate individual resident needs and preferences. Communicates directly with residents, families, and legal representatives to identify approaches that will protect and promote resident rights. Maintains furniture and equipment appropriate to individual needs and abilities.
• Reports injury to the Director of Maintenance.
• Maintains current skills and knowledge through continuing education. Applies information to job responsibilities.
• Participates in fire and disaster drills. In event of an emergency, carries out assigned duties to assure resident safety.
  
  

Qualifications:

Education/Training/Work Experience: High School Diploma or equivalent, vocational training in skilled trade or other relevant technical training.

Certificate/Licences: None.

Work Experience: Minimum one year’s experience in physical plant operations and equipment maintenance in an institutional health care setting.

Persons who have been found guilty by a court of law of abusing, neglecting or mistreating individuals in a health care-related setting are ineligible for employment in this position.
