Billing Clerk
POSITION SUMMARY
Under general supervision, the Clerk performs a wide variety of general clerical duties with only occasional instruction or assistance. This position is characterized by a wide variety of general clerical duties with only occasional instruction or assistance. This position is characterized by a high degree of confidentiality and independent action required in the performance of day-to-day duties. The incumbent must be computer literate, able to maintain confidentiality and work overtime as directed.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Resolve discrepancies
2. Receive the public and answer calls determining how incoming calls should be routed
3. Direct people to appropriate offices
4. Answer routine questions, receive complaints, and explain routine procedures, processes or departmental activities
5. Assist the public in completing forms and finding information
6. Schedule appointments
7. Obtain factual information to create or update client files
8. Type a variety of documents in draft and final form, including correspondence, contracts, charts, and reports from handwritten, recorded or printed sources
9. Proofread materials for completeness, correct grammar, spelling and punctuation
10. Type on personal computer; type narratives in numerical format
11. Prepare, validate, process and/or check a variety of documents such as bills, statistical records, personal records, requisitions, and invoices for completeness and accuracy
12. Compile routine reports by extracting and/or tabulating information from variety of sources, such as files, correspondence, logs, client status and other source documents into an electronic database
13. Compose correspondence following general instructions or outlines
14. Sort and/or file materials such as correspondence and client information
15. Maintain cross reference files and conduct systematic file archiving
16. Convert paper files into an electronic database
17. Follow developed or adapted work procedures to carry out directives
18. Recommend new procedures, design, revise or install a filing system
19. May take dictation for routine letters, memos, or telephone messages
20. Operate a variety of office equipment, including multifunction printer, fax machines, shredders, computer equipment and various software
21. May perform standard equipment maintenance checks
23. May serve as a lead worker in training, assigning, prioritizing or reviewing the work of other employees
24. May be required to work overtime
25. Provide vacation and temporary relief as required
26. May perform other assigned duties as required
