Senior Systems Engineer
The Senior Systems Engineer directly supports the College of Engineering faculty, staff, and students in pursuit of their research, educational, and service objectives as a technological leader on the team that manages the Microsoft infrastructure systems for Engineering Technology Services (ETS). The team manages Microsoft servers and services such as, but not limited to: Active Directory, Group Policy, Microsoft Configuration Manger, Certificate Services, MBAM, Azure services, file and backup services, database services, application management, and software updates. The Engineer participates in the planning and implementation of projects for new services, process improvements, and similar objectives. Consults with faculty and research scientists to design, configure and support innovative solutions to the rapidly changing needs of a very high-tech customer base. Works with all ETS units to support all services provided by the department and is a top technical resource for issues that escalate out of Tier 1 and Tier 2 support groups in their given areas of expertise. Configures and maintains servers and services in adherence to The Ohio State University security standards and industry best practices.
Required: Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience. Preferred majors in computer & information sciences or an engineering discipline. Advanced to expert level experience managing Microsoft Enterprise solutions including tools such as Microsoft Configuration Manager, Hyper-V, failover clustering, file services (DFS, NTFS, SMB), Microsoft SQL Server, AD Certificate Services / PKI, DHCP, DNS, etc. Advanced knowledge and experience working with performance monitoring and log aggregation tools, tools such as SolarWinds, Splunk, Syslog, Windows Event Collector. Experience managing Active Directory and Group Policy. Extensive scripting skills. Working knowledge of Azure or AWS cloud platforms. Experience maintaining secure computing practices including things such as CIS benchmarks, security baselines as well as system hardening and remediation.
Desired: Master’s degree. Experience managing cloud services on Azure or AWS. Experience with MacOS and Apple device management tools such as JAMF; experience working with formal security frameworks; hands-on experience supporting intrusion detection, intrusion prevention, log aggregation, and tools such as CrashPlan, CrowdStrike, DUO, Pulse VPN, Tenable, Citrix, JAMF, NetApp, and Splunk; experience mentoring others; technical certification(s) in related fields; experience with ITIL v3 Foundations; ability to lift 25 pounds, climb stairs, and have good dexterity; experience leading in, and contributing to, a diverse environment.
The Targeted Hiring Range for this position is $73,100 to $97,500
