Department Information
The Herman B Wells Center for Pediatric Research conducts basic science and translational research within the Department of Pediatrics at Indiana University School of Medicine. The Wells Center houses more than 200 faculty investigators, staff, and trainees seeking answers to the most pressing questions related to childhood illness.
With the collaboration between scientists and physicians, the center aims to increase knowledge of causes and mechanisms of serious pediatric diseases. Our goal is to develop innovative approaches to the diagnosis and treatment of sick children in Indiana and beyond.
The Center for Diabetes and Metabolic Diseases is an NIH funded Diabetes Research Center and is a highly interactive and diverse research environment with a strong history of mentoring and career development of junior scientists. In addition to a rich research environment, the Center and School of Medicine provide scientific seminar series, career development workshops, and training opportunities to scientists of diverse background.
Job Summary
A research technician position is available at the laboratory of Dr. Ren at the Center for Diabetes and Metabolic Diseases (CDMD), Herman B Wells Center for Pediatric Research at the Indiana University School of Medicine. Dr. Ren's group studies metabolism and cell signaling pathways in the context of diabetes and obesity research. The Ren lab research team consists of energetic and collaborative fellows, students, and technical support personnel, who use multidisciplinary in vitro and in vivo approaches to address biomedical questions in the field of metabolism, cell signaling, biochemistry, pharmacology, and neuroscience.

The role regularly requires the ability to effectively communicate. The role frequently requires the ability to move about the work environment and to position oneself to operate laboratory equipment effectively. The role requires the ability to move objects weighing up to 25 pounds and will occasionally work near moving mechanical parts. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

- Performs a wide variety of complex experiments and reports results.
- Keeps organized analytical data of performed experiments.
- Provides support for equipment maintenance as needed.
- Acts as a liaison to students and laboratory personnel for training.
- Maintains laboratory supply requisition and management.
- May train junior-level staff.
- May help plan experiments or short-term goals.
