Assistant Payroll Manager
A law firm in New York City is currently seeking an experienced Payroll professional to join their staff as their new Assistant Payroll Manager. In this role, the Assistant Payroll Manager will be responsible for timely and accurate processing delivery and reconciliation of a semi-monthly payroll for 1,200+ employees mostly in the U.S. (New York, Washington DC, and San Francisco) and a small number of foreign expatriates.

The Assistant Payroll Manager will:
- Enter new hires, terminations, benefit, disability and employee information changes into payroll system
- Prepare year-end bonus payments as well as salary increases
- Ability to upload mass changes into payroll system
- Review and audit master file and pay data entries
- Review payroll registers for accuracy before releasing payroll
- Work with the Finance team on monthly reconciliation of payroll expense accounts and provide backup, as needed
- Review and complete verification of employment forms
- Process and monitor deduction accuracy of liens, garnishments and child support notifications
- Work closely with the Benefits Department to ensure accurate benefit deductions
- Maintain payroll records electronically as well as general filing
- Communicate with employees and managers on inquiries and discrepancies
- Respond to payroll inquiries and resolve any payment discrepancies
- Partner with the Human Resources team which establishes new employees with salary rates, deductions, etc.
- Ensure employee payroll taxes and other deductions are up to date
- Troubleshoot and resolve timekeeping, wage, deduction and other payroll issues
- Respond to inquiries from staff regarding their pay and deductions
- Run reports from the ADP application
- Provide materials for the agency audit and other payroll-related audits
- Perform other duties, as assigned
Qualifications:
- 4+ years of Payroll experience
- Bachelor's Degree in Business, Accounting, Finance or equivalent work experience.
- Experience with basic Accounting functions
- Knowledge of required year-end Payroll procedures and ability to issue and communicate on W2s
- Computer savvy
- Experience with Workday
- Microsoft Office Suite proficient (Excel, Word, etc.)
- Solid problem solving and time management skills
- Great interpersonal skills
- Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
- Strong attention to detail
- Highly organized
Desired Skills:
- Experience with ADP or Workday Payroll
- Law firm experience in an AmLaw 50 firm
