Junior Engineer
Job Summary
The Junior Engineer utilizes SolidWorks software to provide product design services to Project Managers, and customers by preparing concept drawings, component layouts, detail drawings, 3D product and tooling models, and assembly drawings. The Junior Engineer position is also responsible for generating concepts, product design and development activities such as dimensional analysis, data analysis, design reviews, DFMEA’s, design presentations, as well as some customer interface.
Junior Engineer Responsibilities:
- Uses SolidWorks CAD software.
- Creates component detail and assembly drawings.
- Conducts testing, collects and analyzes data, and issues reports.
- Has ownership of the testing laboratory which includes maintaining the equipment and organizing the area.
- Reviews designs.
- Performs dimensional analysis and tolerance studies to ensure design integrity.
- Assists with quote packages by identifying needed press sizes, cycle times, obtaining tooling quotes, etc.
- Performs DFME’s and PFMEA’s as needed.
- Reviews tooling models for new products to ensure they meet standards and best practices for mold design.
- Updates and maintains drawings, models, and Engineering Standards.
- Maintains an organized file system for component drawings and 3D model library.
- Communicates effectively with Project Managers, tool room, QA, and manufacturing regarding project details and timing.
- Prepares customer drawings as required.
- Sees the product through the different phases of the product life cycle (Idea Generation & Screening, Concept Development & Testing, Analysis, Product Development, Deployment, and Life of Product).
Education & Experience
- 3 years of experience with product design in an injection molding environment desired.
- Experience in rigid plastic injection molded plastic product design preferred.
- Plastic materials and Injection Molding knowledge preferred.
- Proficient using SolidWorks software strongly desired.
- Familiarity working with imported models of varying file formats.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Strong verbal, problem solving & keyboarding skills required
- GD&T knowledge critical
- Ability to effectively interface with all levels of internal and external customers
- Ability to create documents and correspondence with good grammar and clarity applied
- Demonstrated commitment to getting job done in a quality manner
- Ability to effectively manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Ability to successfully work independently and within a multifaceted team in a fast-paced and high-volume environment with emphasis on accuracy and timeliness
- Proficient with the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams).
