Gardener/Horticulturist (Open Pool)

Baker Creek Heirloom seeds is seeking a skilled Gardener/Horticulturist to join our team in growing, harvesting, and delivering the highest quality plants and seeds to our customers, and providing an excellent experience to our visitors.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Experience with propagation, grafting, seeding, cutting and general nursery practices
• Pot up, fertilize, water plants at scheduled time
• Monitoring and reporting insect/disease activity
• General greenhouse maintenance
• Preparing and mixing fertilizer/soil and other materials
• Clean greenhouse, equipment and plant growth areas
• Ability to identify a variety of species and sub-species of plants
• Knowledge of proper horticultural practices and experience in all aspects of routine garden maintenance is highly preferred
• Knowledge of plant nutrients/nutrition
• Pulling weeds
• Clearing debris from planting

In addition to the plant care duties, this role may provide plant care guidance for our customers as a part our customer service team. Individuals in this role will also be required to work as needed in a variety of other roles, such as warehouse picking/packing, retail and/or restocking, shipping, or other areas are required by business needs

These positions are outdoors and/or in greenhouse for most of the shift. Working conditions in these roles include the exposure to extreme temperatures and other weather conditions including sun and rain exposure. Must be able to sustain moderate to heavy physical exertion throughout shift with a full range of body motion including frequent bending, crouching, and kneeling. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. consistently.

Desired Qualifications

• 1+ years of experience in large commercial greenhouse and/or nursery production
• AS in Plant Science, Agriculture, or equivalent combination of education and experience
