Location: Verona, WI 53593 - Onsite Role (1st shift)

Duration: 12+ months contract (extension possible)

Job Description:

  • This position will provide engineering support for two sites in the SAFC business unit synthesizing custom small molecule active pharmaceutical ingredients.
  • Tasks will support manufacturing activities in a total of 14 GMP labs, pilot plants, and production plants including calculations for system scale-up, process hazard analysis and review, and equipment procurement through the capital expenditure process.

Responsibilities:

  • Acts as main intermediary between Process Development Chemists and Manufacturing teams for scale up of new chemistry projects to fixed equipment scale
  • Develops intimate knowledge of existing process capabilities at two SAFC manufacturing sites
  • Reviews cost model estimates developed by Project Management for accuracy of assumptions
  • Leads procurement projects for new equipment or systems required to support manufacturing
  • Develops accurate descriptions of problems or opportunities that show thorough knowledge of the subject matter
  • Obtains the necessary level of input from stakeholders for new equipment purchases
  • Accurately defines design limitations and criteria
  • Investigates and develops multiple solutions whenever possible
  • Conducts interactive design with cross-functional team members
  • Regularly communicates project status to all affected parties
  • Develops a system design or operational procedures to meet governing Environmental or Safety regulations at state and federal levels as well as corporation principles or insurance agency guidelines
  • Assists in the development of an accurate project scope and executes a developed project plan
  • Assists in developing detailed specifications and bid documents that require vendors to submit complete and comparable bids
  • Consistently solicits, negotiate, issues contract and manages delivery to meet project schedule and quality requirements for the lowest possible cost
  • Teams with purchasing when appropriate to procure supplies or capital goods
  • Secures warranties, manuals, drawing and other appropriate documentation
  • Act as company representative for final acceptance of new process equipment
  • Directs and/or assists in new equipment and/or system startup
  • Leads and/or assists manufacturing with new equipment validation to ensure design specifications are met
  • Develops and organizes project's paper and electronic files for record keeping or manufacturing department use
  • Develops new operating procedures to support system design and intended use
  • Diagnoses process system, equipment, or procedural deficiencies and malfunctions
  • Leads PHA reviews of scaled-up processes and/or chemistry
  • Participates on Process Improvement (PI) Teams, leads at least one PI project annually
  • Oversees the application of and compliance with company SOP's, policies, and procedures
  • Maintains department databases and produces reports from them as required
  • Miscellaneous duties and tasks as assigned
  • Exemplary attendance and adherence to schedule

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline (preferably Chemical Engineering), or equivalent degree.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 3 years industrial plant engineering or process engineering.
  • Desirable to have a background in a cGMP manufacturing setting, preferably pharmaceutical.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • PC proficiency and familiarity with engineering software systems such as AutoCAD, Allen Bradley Logix platform, PHA software.
  • Able to train end users on the operation of new or modified systems.
  • Working knowledge of current best available technologies for chemical processing.
  • Able to work with SAFC personnel, outside subject matter experts, equipment vendors, and installation contractors to complete a project.
  • Strong organizational skills, excellent verbal, and written communication skills, and demonstrated leadership ability are required.
