Job Description
Responsible for General Liability & Property insurance claims management and tracking for Multi-Family property owner with approximately 8,000 apartment units in communities across 6 states in the North East. Additional responsibilities include management of litigations and request for reasonable accommodations in accordance with the Fair Housing Act.
The Role....
The Insurance & Risk Management position will be responsible for understanding the General Liability & Property Insurance coverage for all the properties in the Eagle Rock Properties portfolio. Additionally, track all Workers Compensation claims. Property Managers will send all Incident Reports into Insurance & Risk Management department which will review and determine if the incident should be delivered to our Brokers, Advisors, and Insurers. This will require the tracking of all Insurance Claims and continued coordination between all parties related to processing the claims. This will include speaking, emailing and, writing letters with Brokers, Advisors, Insurers, Adjusters, Cleanup & Restoration Companies, Contractors, in-house stakeholders such as Regional Community Manager, Community Manager, Head of Construction, Head of Human Resources, Controllers, and Senior Executives. This position will also have the responsibility of managing the requests for reasonable accommodations.
Essential Job Functions:
- Manage all Incident Reports and Insurance Claims and associated legal matters to maximize property insurance recoveries and minimize liability losses.
- Assist in identifying legal liability and pursue, negotiate, and settle claims (liability, property, subrogation, etc.)
- Oversee the handling of all third-party claims, including litigated claims.
- Assist with the scheduling of EBT's.
- Collect information needed to determine on-site statement interviews and adjuster/claim conversations.
- Develop and maintain relationships with insurance brokers, attorneys, witnesses, underwriters, advisors, insurers, adjusters, and other service providers.
- Review Quarterly Claims and Reserve Analysis as prepared by insurance brokers and advisors.
- Develop and maintain tracking system for all claims including electronic filing of all related claim documents.
- Manage scheduling of inspections by Adjusters for all parties involved in claim.
- If the claim involves property restoration, coordinate that the work is done on a timely basis and assemble all invoices for insurance company.
- Work with Regional Community Managers and Community Managers to ensure mitigation is completed to prevent further damage and/or injury.
- Coordinate restoration work.
- If the claim is a liability claim, work to gather all the facts from the different Eagle Rock Management staff members involved in the situation. This may require working with the Head of Human Resources.
- Coordinate with Controllers insurance escrow accounts and pursue reimbursement from lenders as needed.
- Review contracts with vendors for proper risk transfers/indemnities/insurance requirements.
- Review vendor insurance documentation for compliance with contracts
- Ensure compliance with requests for reasonable accommodations & modifications.
Requirements
- 5-10 years of insurance and risk management experience with general liability and property coverages for property owner/manager. Ideally with Multi-Family properties, but not essential.
- Detail oriented and well organized.
- Self-Starter with ability to work independently and prioritize multiple tasks.
- Good time management and interpersonal skills.
- Comfortable working in high volume environment.
- Supervisory Experience.
- Strong knowledge of property and casualty insurance and management of liability coverages.
- Working knowledge of construction-related insurance a plus.
- Claims handling experience (Property, casualty, and workers compensation).
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, and Teams, as well as Property Management Software.
- Proven track record of success in a performance driven environment.
- Insurance professional designation a plus.
- Bachelor's degree or higher.
- Insurance Certification a plus.
- Must have Car.
