Senior Financial Analyst, FP&A (open to remote)

The Finance team at Marley Spoon is growing, with a mission to provide business partnership using best-in-class financial data and analysis. Our aim is to help the company make the right, fact-based decisions to move the business forward. As part of this effort, we are now looking for an exceptional Senior Analyst, FP&A US! This can be a hybrid role based out of our NYC office or performed remotely to work within EST hours.
What you will do:
This role serves as a key right hand to the Head of Finance, providing timely and comprehensive analysis of financial performance for Marley Spoon’s largest region. This is a core Financial Planning & Analysis role with activities including working on the monthly/quarterly/year-end close, budgeting, planning and forecasting. This role requires a strong sense of business partnership in order to help the business deliver its objectives and make data-driven decisions. This position also offers the opportunity for growth with line management of the current team of FP&A analysts, and greater managerial responsibilities in the future.
Additional responsibilities include:
- Own the tracking, analysis, and reporting of US performance across sales, variable costs, and base costs, across multiple brands, through mid-month and month-end, ensuring timely, and accurate completion of reporting.
- Deliver timely and comprehensive analyses of drivers of “Contribution Margin” (food, packaging, manufacturing and logistics costs), base costs
- Conduct comparative analyses versus plan and prior periods to identify trends and explain movements in financial performance
- Deliver regular, high-quality KPI reporting to provide transparency on business performance
- Help deliver, and in the future, lead monthly and quarterly business reviews, including visually presenting financial analysis, for review with US leadership team
- Contribute to budget oversight for the region across all functions, including at quarterly and annual forecast periods
- Work with functions outside of finance (e.g., Procurement, Operations, Marketing, Digital, Customer Communications, People Operations) to identify and realize opportunities to lower costs and increase sales
- Work closely with other finance departments, including controlling and accounting, to ensure accurate and complete reporting, improve processes, and comply with accounting regulations
- Contribute to ad hoc finance projects, such as investor presentations and annual audit, as needed
- Work on ad hoc strategic analyses to support and help grow the US business (i.e., pricing strategies, margin improvement, business cases)
- Work across multiple systems for mid-month and month-end closing analyses including ERP systems, BI, management accounting reporting tools and Adaptive planning system
- Participate in systems integrations or enhancements as needed
The US is Marley Spoon’s largest region and as such has a fair amount of complexity:
- ~$150m region
- 500 FTEs
- Three fulfillment centers in California, Texas and New Jersey
- Two brands (Martha Stewart & Marley Spoon, Dinnerly)
- Matrixed functions, including Marketing which oversees Revenue forecasting
Who you will work with:
This role requires heavy interaction with several stakeholders across various levels and functions within the organization:
- Reports to Head of Finance for US
- Future line management of the FP&A analysts
- Interacts with and has occasion to present to US leadership team, including CEO
- Regular interactions with function representatives across Marketing, Culinary, Sourcing, Supply Chain, Procurement and People Operations, among others
- Regular interaction with global Heads of Accounting Operations and Reporting and Audit
- Regular interaction with counterparts in Marley Spoon’s Australia and Europe regions
Who we believe can excel in this role:
Qualifications:
- Degree in finance, accounting or management preferred but not required
Previous Experience:
- Minimum 4 years practical work experience in Financial Analysis & Planning, Business Controllership or other financial analyst roles
- Experience understanding and working with the P&L, the business context and understanding of performance drivers
- Prior experience in Direct-to-Consumer, Ecommerce or FMCG/manufacturing companies highly desirable
Other Skills and Competencies:
- Strong written and verbal English
- Excellent analytical skills, including strong attention to detail
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
- Strong Excel and PowerPoint skills; data analysis tools like Looker or Microsoft Dynamics NAV would be a plus
