The Center for Inclusive Growth is the philanthropic hub at Mastercard. The organization seeks to ensure that the benefits of an expanding economy accrue to all segments of society. Through research, impact data science, programs and strategic engagement, the Center addresses the dual challenges of income and information inequality to advance equitable and sustainable economic growth and financial inclusion around the world.
The Sustainability team oversees execution of Mastercards Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) strategy. In partnership with Mastercards businesses, risk functions and operational teams, the Sustainability team drives development of the companys environmental stewardship initiatives, ESG disclosures and ratings, engagement with key clients, investors and stakeholders, management of sustainability-related reputational risks and other priority efforts.

Position Description
This position is key to establishing Mastercard as a private sector leader in Sustainability/ESG.
As our approach to sustainability matures, we are moving from managing risk to seizing opportunity. Our goals in these areas include expanding beyond compliance and reputation management to innovation and value creation: moving from driving cost efficiencies to growing revenue and from making sure we do no harm to owning our opportunity to lead with purpose.
The Director of Sustainability Strategy will work closely with the Chief Sustainability Officer in operationalizing Mastercards 2025 ESG strategy. This includes the development, integration, and execution of Mastercards ESG strategy. Delivering on the ESG strategy will require focus on key material ESG issues where Mastercard leads and expanding our leadership as our capacity grows and ensuring acceptable industry standards. There will be a focus on embedding ESG into the wider business to drive it through our culture and magnify our impact. As well as, ensuring public commitments are kept, strengthening communication consistent with our position and continuing to emphasize our differentiation.
ROLE:
Partner with the Chief Sustainability Officer on the development of ESG strategy
Implement Mastercards ESG strategy to position Mastercard as a leader in Sustainability
Build and manage the internal infrastructure to support ESG Strategy (ie. calendar, tools, materials, dashboard to improve for briefings, reporting, communications) while reducing the amount of ad hoc work
Manage the operational processes of the ESG strategy designed with a focus on addressing societal problems, such as climate change, financial inclusion, inclusive growth, data responsibility, DEI, supply chain and others.
Collaborate with leadership across the business to drive ESG integration, accountability and execution, embedding sustainability into our business units
Working across company verticals, work with subject matter experts to develop and execute implementation plans for material ESG issues
Collaborate with the controller team in developing a controls framework to support complete, accurate and timely ESG reporting
Achieve ambitions for material ESG issues, including meeting internal objectives and public commitments
Advance Mastercards excellence in standards, reporting, ratings, rankings, indices.
Strengthen the recognition Mastercard receives for its ESG leadership and performance
Develop new and support existing ESG alignment strategies, including internal communications, employee education and engagement, tools, programs, etc.
Serve as Sustainability subject matter expert internally and externally
Serve as sustainability champion integrating ESG thinking into every department, group and individual within a company
Mitigate shareholder proposals, respond to new regulatory requirements and address issues raised by stakeholders
Support the companys broader brand and employee engagement objectives through efforts to promote sustainability and pursuit of doing well by doing good strategy in order to retain and attract elite talent
Elevate our Sustainability brand visually and textually in line with Mastercards strong brand reputation, identity and value
Increase Mastercards presence through external leadership engagements and industry partnership opportunities in order to play an active role in driving the evolution of the Sustainability industry
Represent Mastercard as a leader in key Sustainability Industry Groups
Increase awareness of Mastercard's Sustainability Leadership through speaking engagements/panels at industry forums
ALL ABOUT YOU:
Bachelors degree required; advanced degree in business and/or sustainability or experience implementing similar programs in a corporate environment strongly preferred
Experience with ESG reporting frameworks (i.e. SASB, TCFD, GRI and others)
Knowledge and understanding of ESG initiatives, standards and trends, especially relevant to technology industry
Successful track record in managing sustainability programs and associated processes
Excellent people management skills; providing others with a clear direction, motivation and empowerment
Ability to synthesize abundant information and offer recommendations/solutions
Ability to craft complex communications products with a clear and compelling narrative
A creative mindset that can be applied to strategy, marketing and execution while working in a fast-paced, dynamic and sometimes ambiguous work environment
Demonstrated experience in owning and independently managing strategic initiatives from conceptualization to execution
Team oriented with ability to build positive relationships / collaborations with global multi-cultural teams across a variety of sectors and geographies to achieve results
Demonstrated ability to prioritize, multi-task and manage deadlines for multiple initiatives and teams
COVID-19 Considerations
We value the safety of each member of our community because we know were all in this together.
