    Aerospace / Mechanical Engineer

    Location: Huntsville, AL

    Qualis Corporation is seeking an Aerospace / Mechanical Engineer to support our NASA program at Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, AL.

    Responsibilities:

    Primary duties for the Turbomachinery Engineer/Combustion Devices engineer would include:

  • Design and analysis, along with insight and oversight of work performed by others

  • Apply analyses to pre- and post-test predictions of component performance and to assessing ground test/flight data

  • Evaluate contractor designs to determine if hardware will meet mission requirements

  • Utilize analysis and test/flight data to characterize the component environments and establish if the combustion devices and turbomachinery meet established design requirements and design goals

  • Perform qualitative and quantitative analysis for the design, development, manufacturing, and testing of liquid propulsion components related to turbomachinery and combustion devices

  • Develop and implement new design concepts, design improvements, and fabrication methods

  • Collaborate with other engineers to resolve technical issues

  • Create scripts for automated testing

  • Attend technical interchanges, project planning, design review and other appropriate meetings to maintain a current knowledge base of design, requirements, issues, action items, and resolution activities. Identify issues, pursue resolutions, and provide supporting analyses. Complete assigned action items. Review requirements and implement risk management processes

  • Document and deliver results with recommendations

  • Perform other duties related to liquid rocket engine analyses and systems engineering as assigned

    Qualifications:

    Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering or related technical field is required. Degree from an ABET accredited institution is preferred. Typically, educational requirements are the equivalent of a minimum of a BS with 0 to 5 years of experience.

    Required:

  • Strong interest in turbines/pumps and combustion devices

  • Attention to details and strong organization skills

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products such as Power-Point, Excel, and Word

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Must be comfortable working across organizational boundaries to identify and resolve engine/vehicle integration issues

  • Theoretical background in thermodynamics, fluid mechanics and heat transfer

  • Proof of U.S. Citizenship is required

    Desired:

  • Knowledge of turbomachinery principals

  • Familiarity with and experience in systems engineering processes and applications

  • Basic programming skills

    Work Environment

    Office environment. Requires ability to provide clear, concise, accurate and timely communication, both verbally and in writing (100%). Requires ability to interact professionally with co-workers, management, and client (100%). Requires travel in the domestic USA (<15%).

    Physical Requirements

    Requires sitting for extended periods of time in meetings with peers, management, and with our client at NASA facilities to discuss technical issues (40%). Also, requires sitting for extended periods of time at a desk to write reports and perform engineering tasks (40%). Requires ability to use stairs or elevators for access between floors and multiple buildings at NASA and Jacobs facilities (10%).

    Equipment and Machines

    Requires ability to operate a personal computer, a telephone, copier, calculator, and other general office equipment.

    Attendance

    Normal workday is from 7:30 a.m. through 4:30 p.m., Monday thru Friday. Minimal overtime may be required to meet schedule milestones and to support technical demands of the job. Regular attendance is a necessity and adequate arrangements for delegating duties during absences are required.

    Other Essential Functions

    The ability to work independently with minimal supervision, and to make rational decisions, and to exercise good judgment is essential (100%). Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others.
