Cutter Operator
Job Description
Summary
The Bindery Cutter Operator is solely responsible and held accountable for each job to maintain consistent quality and production numbers through each job. A Bindery Equipment Operator needs to understand the principles and problems of all printed material and be able to meet the required demands of deadlines in a timely manner.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
1. Check each job and load tag, which is marked with date and time printed.
2. Check all loads before cutting to make sure it is dry enough to work.
3. Check for offset on each lift that is cut and also check for any discrepancies.
4. Read job ticket for proper size and packaging instructions (shrink-wrap, band, tape etc.) If applicable, due to some jobs forward to different departments.
5. Read job ticket for proper size and layout, if job forwards to (Folders, Hand Department, Stitchers, Binder, and Mailing etc.) If applicable, due to some jobs are finished off the cutter.
6. Compare the printed copy to the blue-line or page proof to insure all corrections have been completed. Compare the initial form/press sheet to the prior sample or blue–line.
7. Prior to cutting, bring a handful of sheets along with the job ticket and blue-line/proof for approval by the Bindery Team Leader or Supervisor.
8. Cut loads marked samples and keep separate. Customer/Sales, go directly to the Bindery Quality Control Office (sample area) Note: flag samples clearly if going to a different department (Folders, Hand Department, Stitchers, Binder etc.)
9. Sign off on job ticket with quantity and initial on back of ticket in the appropriate area for each stage of the job completed.
10. Responsible for accuracy of work when helpers are used in job production.
11. Perform all routine maintenance to keep equipment running as indicated by the manufacture’s manual.
12. Complete a parts requisition form for any parts needed for each different cutter and repair if possible.
13. Clean work area at the end of shift in readiness for the next shift.
14. Assist in any other bindery functions as needed and directed.
15. Identify & reduce waste.
Qualifications
1. Accurately read a ruler
2. General math skills (adding, subtracting, multiplying & dividing)
3. Read the job ticket
4. Ability to perform repetitive movement include lifting, bending & stooping
