Job Summary:

Perform specimen collection, specimen handling, and clerical duties. Experienced in phlebotomy and proficient in performing additional tasks such as central processing duties and inventory management.

Essential Duties include the following:

  • Perform phlebotomy, positive patient identification, positive patient interaction, proper collection, and specimen integrity according to established operating procedures.
  • Sort and process specimens received by the laboratory and proficiently handle all specimens received in the lab.
  • Inoculate media for microbiology testing.
  • Limited clinical testing required
  • Coordinates a simultaneous series of tasks accurately and prioritizes work to complete within scheduled hours and established turnaround times.
  • May perform registration, inventory maintenance, and other duties as assigned.
  • Interpret physician orders and order tests in the appropriate system.
  • Assisting clients with lab ordering and other troubleshooting.
  • Read, understand, and comply with departmental policies, protocols, and procedures: (i.e., Procedure Manuals, Safety Manual, Compliance Manual, and Quality Assurance Manual); and ensure that all staff members follow instructions.
  • Works in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education and/or experience

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • 1-2 years experience preferred

Physical Demands:

  • Frequent lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 0-25 lbs.
  • Frequent sitting, standing, walking, reaching, and repetitive foot/leg and hand/arm movements.
  • Frequent use of vision and depth perception for distances near (20 inches or less) and far (20 feet or more) and to identify and distinguish colors.
  • Fine dexterity with hands, steadiness.
  • Must be able to perform repetitive tasks with dominant hand frequently to constantly throughout the day.
  • Frequent use of hearing and speech to share information through oral communication. Ability to hear alarms, malfunctioning machinery, etc.
  • Frequent keyboard use/data entry.
  • Occasional bending, stooping, kneeling, squatting, twisting, and gripping.
  • Occasional lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 25-50 lbs.
  • Position may require travel.
