Mechanic-VML Maintenance
General Description:
The Mechanic I is responsible for achieving a high level of reliability for plant equipment through performing tasks required to maintain equipment and minimize downtime. Performs production line set ups according to specifications under supervision, assists with equipment, process, and system maintenance, troubleshoots equipment, makes repairs and identifies opportunities for improvement.
Specific Responsibilities & Duties:
- Promotes a safe working environment and adheres to Health, Safety and Environmental procedures, company safety rules, Current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP’s), Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) in line with the company’s objectives and policies at all times.
- Demonstrates competency in at least one area of mechanical specialty (labeling, tube filling, XP filling, high speed filling, low speed filling)
- Demonstrates understanding of the production schedule
- Complies with OSHA Safety, FDA requirements.
- Sets up equipment for production runs.
- Utilizes production work orders to schedule and obtain information for line set-ups and equipment maintenance.
- Helps perform preventative maintenance.
- Capable of performing wash-ups on the filling equipment.
- Performs daily equipment checks.
- Understands and uses lockout/tag-out procedures.
- Working with Line Leader, tracks, plans, and initiates washouts and changeovers.
- Prepares and maintains accurate and timely documentation including changeover logs, cleaning logs, wash out logs, machine maintenance logs and other department reports.
- Reports downtime when assigned to a line.
- Reports any equipment malfunctions or other abnormal condition to the area Engineering Manager and/or Production Management.
- Assists mechanics with Preventative Maintenance (PM) on assigned production equipment.
- Maintains a clean, neat, and safe work area.
- Assists other machine operators and mechanics with changeovers.
- Works closely with all management and supervisors.
- Performs additional tasks or duties as assigned by Engineering Manager.
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Long periods of standing, walking, bending, stooping, squatting, or kneeling.
Qualifications:
- High school education or equivalent.
- A.E. specializing in Machine Tool Technology, Mechanical or Electrical is preferred.
- 3-5 years’ experience in maintenance mechanic role; preferably in cosmetic process manufacturing or an FDA regulated industry.
- Familiarity with Resina cappers, Capmatic filling machines, Simplex fillers, Tube filling machines, and coding machines
- Mechanical aptitude to understand the use of pumps and other equipment used in the filling of products.
- Intermediate knowledge of power and hand tools to perform job functions.
- Direct experience in maintenance and repair of manufacturing, production/filling/bottling/packaging equipment and automated machinery in manufacturing environment
- Skilled in machining, mechanical, welding, fabricating and electrical
- Intermediate knowledge of conveyors, filling machines, cappers, coding machines, chain drive systems, rotary tables, vibratory feeder systems, ultrasonic welding equipment, pneumatics, hydraulics, motors and controllers, valves, sensors, basic electrical wiring
- Proven work experience with Pacific 18 head Rotary Fillers, Cartoners, Pack West Cappers, Kalish Fillers, Accrapply Labelers, Sherwood Labeler, Biner Ellison, Video Jet Coders, Norden 700 Tube Fillers, MRM Filler, Shrink Wrappers, 3M case sealer, Axon Heat Tunnels, and New England bottle Unscrambler, Gear boxes, Pneumatic Mechanical-Pneumatics, Hydraulic Processing Equipment-Conveyors, Pumps/Centrifugal, PD, Diaphragm, Mixer, Air Compressor, Packaging Equipment, Cappers, Shrink Bundler, Fillers, Gluer, Stretch Wrapper, Bottle Cap Sleeve.
- Strong English communications skills: speaking, reading, and writing.
- Strong math and analytical skills: addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division
- Intermediate PC Knowledge i.e. MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook) is preferred.
- Able to work independently and as a team player
- Good attendance record.
