Job Details
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- This role reports to the Director of Finance, who in turn reports to the CFO. The org structure provides the Financial Planning Associate a great deal of exposure to executives
- Support the Director of Finance who is responsible for initiating, tracking, and advancing key management objectives such as budgeting, forecasting, M&A, capital deployment, and evaluating external financing
- Work with executives to build annual budgets and forecasts, and conduct variance analysis to demonstrate how they compare against actual performance
- Formulate value-add analysis and recommendations that can help navigate a challenging and unpredictable economic environment. Take complex situations and simplify them so management can make informed decisions on how to allocate, save, or efficiently deploy capital
- Prepare presentations and memos that disclose financials for monthly, quarterly and annual management reviews
- Update the internal corporate model as actual numbers are received from Accounting. Be the owner, manager, and point of contact for the corporate model and all its related tasks
- Tactfully and effectively work with multiple internal groups to track down information regarding capital, LOE, acquisitions, production and more on a timely basis
- Monitor oil and natural gas hedges and their impact on overall company performance
- Create Excel models to evaluate resource allocation decisions and ongoing cashflow planning
- Produce detailed reports, graphs, charts and presentations that outline findings, explain risk and recommend alternatives
- Monitor fundamental economic, industrial and corporate developments by analyzing information from various sources
- Present written reports on forecasts, variance analysis, and operational updates
Education/Experience:
- Undergraduate degree in finance or accounting required, or a degree in engineering combined with credentials in finance (e.g., master’s degree in a financial field or significant progress toward CFA charter)
- 4 years of experience in financial analysis: corporate finance, accounting, commercial banking, investment banking or other related functions working with Excel models and PowerPoint presentations
- Advanced MS Office skills in Excel (financial modeling experience required), PowerPoint, and Word
- Capable financial modeler experienced with 3-statement financial models and corresponding analysis
- Adept at creating presentations in PowerPoint such as investor presentations, BOD materials, and marketing decks
- Excellent writing skills and can draft memos that clearly articulate state of the company to BOD and management
- Oil and gas experience preferred, ideally in upstream
- Ability to take ownership of new tasks and problems and solve them with precision and thoughtfulness
- Team player with intellectual curiosity, a strong work ethic, a positive attitude, and persistent attention to detail
- Possesses the initiative to work independently on tasks with limited data and the desire to take on projects that may not be specifically assigned
