Quality Control Inspector



Job Description

The Quality Control Inspector is responsible for making sure that products meet a set of standards. Duties include examining shipments of inventory and raw goods, measuring the specifications of random items in each production run and training team members to refine production quality.

Essential Functions: (listed in accordance to their importance and/or frequency)

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

• Inspects and approves incoming materials by confirming specifications, conducting visual and measurement tests, and rejecting and returning unacceptable materials.

• Inspects in-process production by confirming specifications, conducting visual and measurement tests, communicating required adjustments to production supervisor.

• Approves finished products by confirming specifications, conducting visual and measurement tests, returning products for re-work, and confirming re-work.

• Documents inspection results by completing reports and logs, summarizes re-work and waste, and inputs data into quality database.

• Keeps measurement equipment operating by following operating instructions and calibration requirements, and calling for repairs.

• Maintains safe and healthy work environment by following standards and procedures, and complying with legal regulations.

• Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities and reading technical publications.

• Accomplishes quality and organization mission by completing related results as needed.

Quality Control Inspector I Entry Level

Requires < 1 year experience and high school diploma or equivalent. Some experience with testing equipment and gages (micrometers, calipers, etc.). Able to read and understand blueprints. Able to interpret inspection criteria and perform inspections. Responsible for first piece, in-process, & final inspections. Able to complete paperwork clearly and concisely. Understanding of computers. Works under the direct supervision of Lead Quality Control Inspector, reports to Quality Engineer.

Quality Control Inspector II Mid Level

Requires 2-3 years’ experience and high school diploma or equivalent. Moderate experience with testing equipment and gages (micrometers, calipers, etc.). Able to read and interpret blueprints. Experience with various computer software and Microsoft office applications. Responsible for first piece, in-process, & final inspections. Able to complete paperwork clearly and concisely. Able to self-direct for inspection of basic stampings, wireforms, and springs. Assists in process improvement and complaint investigation activities. Works under the direct supervision of Lead Quality Control Inspector, reports to Quality Engineer.

Lead Quality Control Inspector Senior Level

Minimum 5 years of quality control experience or equivalent of an Associate’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Design. Can use wide variety of testing equipment without direction. Able to self-direct for inspection of complex stampings, wireforms, and springs for all levels of inspection. Experience with various computer software and Microsoft office applications. Completes layout inspections and capability studies. Performs gage calibration according to written standards. Works with Quality Assurance to keep documentation accurate and up to date on production floor. Assists in process improvement and complaint investigation activities. Works directly with engineering, supervisors and operators to correct problems. Reports directly to Quality Assurance Engineer.

Quality Control Inspector 2nd Shift

Requires 1 year experience and high school diploma or equivalent. Some experience with testing equipment and gages (micrometers, calipers, etc.). Able to read and understand blueprints. Able to interpret inspection criteria and perform inspections. Responsible for first piece, in-process, & final inspections. Able to complete paperwork clearly and concisely. Works with machine operators to learn minor machine adjustments and re-wiring to keep machines running. Stops or programs machines for off shift production. Reports to Quality Engineer.
