Classification: Compensation & Benefits Specialist
Compensation: $24.00 to $26.00 hourly
The primary purpose of the HR Benefits Specialist position is to coordinate and conduct the agency’s benefits administration as well as provide administrative support in the areas of performance management, workers’ compensation, employee relations and leave of absences. The HR Benefits Specialist will be responsible for performing a variety of clerical and administrative functions such as, but not limited to, process new benefit enrollments, generate monthly and quarterly reports, maintain our HRIS system, and provide agency wide employee training.
Major Duties and Responsibilities: Listed below is an outline of the major duties and responsibilities that you will be required to perform. As the HR Benefits Specialist, you are delegated the authority, responsibility and accountability to carry out your assigned duties. Even though your job description is broad, every effort has been made to make this outline as complete as possible. However, we must emphasize that you may be required to perform other related duties and activities.
1. Creates and maintains a professional department environment.
2. Serve as a resource for employees on human resources policies, procedures and benefits.
3. Provides administrative support to Senior Director of Human Resources and Director of Talent Management.
4. Provides agency wide employee training, including new hire and benefit orientations and other human resources areas as directed by the Senior Director of Human Resources.
5. Assists in managing the Leave of Absence (LOA) program. Responsible for tracking leave of absence documentation and sending notices to employees to ensure full compliance with state and federal regulations.
6. Responsible for reporting all work-related injuries and generating monthly workers’ compensation analysis reports. Maintains OSHA 300 log, staff injury reports up to date; reports employee accidents to insurance carrier within 24-48 hours of incident, serves as a liaison with insurance carrier to expedite closure of claims, work closely with supervisors to implement injury prevention strategies.
1.Education: a. Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field from an accredited college or university preferred.
2. Experience: a. 4 years administrative support experience. b. 2 years experience in a Human Resources department. c. Advanced computer skills and competency in Microsoft Office - Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook. d. Working knowledge of Human Resources principles and practices. e. ADP Workforce Now HRIS and payroll software experience, preferred. f. Ability to manage and track all leaves associated with FMLA, CFRA, PDL and ADA.
