Sales and Use Tax Analyst
Job Description
Position Summary:
The Sales & Use Tax Specialist will assist the Tax Manager to determine proper taxability of customers and transactions and must have prior sales tax experience, preferably in a high-volume environment. This will require a professional who possesses good organizational skills and can work as part of a team.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Responsible for the preparation and filing of monthly, quarterly, and annual sales and use tax returns for all states in which Bilfinger has nexus.
- Implements and maintains sales tax software across all legal entities.
- Processes tax payments to appropriate agencies and verify payments to the GL, including managing tax accrual accounts.
- Assists with maintaining Federal and State tax calendar.
- Monitors and confirms changes to sales tax rates within the tax software.
- Stays current in sales tax issues and law changes as they relate to the organization.
- Assists with obtaining audit support documentation and is an integral part in managing sales tax audits.
- Reviews Accounts Payable invoices to determine applicable use tax, as needed.
- Assists Tax Manager with other federal and state issues and projects, as needed.
- Assists with tax research projects per direction of management.
- Assists management with ad-hoc requests, including special projects and initiatives.
- Observes and complies with all safety rules.
- Performs other related duties as required and assigned.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting is required.
- CPA preferred.
- 3 - 5 years of experience with sales & use tax is required.
- Construction industry sales & use tax experience.
- Must be willing to work overtime.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Able to handle sensitive and confidential company information with integrity.
- Extremely organized with strong time-management skills.
- Work both independently and as a team to meet deadlines and objectives.
- Excellent verbal, written, and oral communication skills are required.
- Must be able to work under pressure.
- Must be able to work individually and in a team.
Technical Knowledge and Skills:
- ERP Basic accounting knowledge required
- Proficient in the Microsoft suite of applications, with strong emphasis on Excel.
- SAP experience is a plus.
- Vertex or OneSource Sales & Use Tax Compliance systems experience is a plus.
