Lead Software Engineer, UI or UX - Telecommute

The Unified Search Team at Optum is working to bring industry-leading search technology and user experiences to tens of millions of healthcare consumers and providers. We are looking for Lead Software Engineers to collaborate with teams and lines of business across the Optum/United Healthcare enterprise to integrate their data into the expanding Unified Search Platform. Reporting to the Director of Engineering, they will partner closely with Search Science, Platform, Product, and Design teams and collaborate with numerous stakeholders across the business.

We are forming a geographically distributed but cohesive and high-performing team of inquiring minds; we plan our teamwork around flexible schedules and other personal needs. You will be part of a group of innovators who will help drive the change for healthcare consumers.

We are looking for a front-end or full-stack engineer with substantial experience in complex UI/UX and/or search result page design. We expect this member of our core team to contribute to the design of our FE search platform and work on innovative ideas for internal tools to speed our SDLC and MLOps processes for search relevance.

Primary Responsibilities

• Contribute to the design of the common platform for unified search project
• Design and implement internal tools for data scientists and search editors to shorten our model building and SDLC for search platfor
• Work with Design team on innovative UX approaches to SERP; develop fast proof of concepts for generated ideas
• Influence the technical direction for the team
• Perform code reviews and mentor junior engineers. Work as the front facing technical lead for the FE team, work with other engineering teams to help solve business problem
• Assist with recruiting and hiring

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in computer science or similar fields of study
• 6+ years of hands-on experience with various FE design frameworks
• Working knowledge of Network Connectivity / VPN / Firewall / TCP/IP
• Hands-on experience in representing complex data in a UI
• Skilled in programming languages (e.g., Node.JS, JavaScript, Python) and UI frameworks (e.g., React, Flask)
• Hands on experience with cloud computing platforms (Azure or AWS)
• Working knowledge of Docker/K8s or similar platforms

Preferred qualifications

• Advanced degree in computer science, or related field
• Familiarity with recommendation systems, e-commerce applications
• Familiarity with SERPs and feedback mechanism in search/e-commerce
• Healthcare experience
• Hands-on experience in many disparate technologies, typically ranging from front-end user interfaces through to back-end software systems and all points in between
• Experience in developing search engines applications for various platforms (web and mobile), e.g. name entity recognition, intent classification, spell correction, autocompletion), cold-start recommendation, semi-supervised learning (e.g. positive unlabeled learning)
