Position Overview:
- This position is expected to lead by example in a self-managed agile team through the full systems life cycle when developing the company's technical solutions using the agile methodology.
- They are responsible for driving API first design, development, implementation, and support.
- The Senior API Developer ensures that the development and rollout of technical solutions are performed in a timely manner.
- This role is viewed as a technical lead within an agile team, setting standards to reduce complexity, writing technical specs for APIs and identifying risks as the project progresses.
- The Senior API Developer will be considered as a subject matter expert on API integrations and development.
- This role will have awareness of the cross-organizational impact of system changes.
Responsibilities
- Works closely with stake holders, product owners, and agile team members to conduct analysis, understand and capture business requirements used to create user stories on the teams backlog.
- The stories help drive the design and development of quality technical solutions. These solutions must be aligned with business and IT strategies and comply with the organization's architectural standards.
- Develops and presents recommendations towards the API design and development of IT solutions across broad disciplines and functional areas.
- Demonstrates leadership skills as the team works through the full system development life cycle and may be responsible for providing accurate estimates, gathering business requirements, designing, coding, testing, implementing, and supporting application software that is delivered in a timely manner.
- Participates in making recommendations towards API and Integration best practices and strategies
- Collaborates effectively with others in a variety of work settings.
- This involves helping to educate others within their area of expertise, understanding the issues/concerns of other areas, communicating the project status and working together to solve problems across the IT organization.
- Effectively communicates the project status for areas of responsibility to management.
Required Skills:
- Strong knowledge and experience with API design and development. Experience with SaaS based API Management platform / gateway is a plus.
- Hands on experience developing REST based APIs
- Build and support CI/CD pipeline for API deployment and publishing
- Strong knowledge in API Modelling languages and annotations (YAML, Swagger)
- Prior experience in API Platform setup is a key
- Good understanding of API Security and Microservices Architecture
- Hands on experience developing APIs using Google Apigee APIM Platform
- Proficiency with server-side languages like .NET, Python, Java is a plus but not mandatory
- Good understanding of database technology MS SQL, Oracle.
- Demonstrate proficiency and proven expertise in more than one skill and/or discipline amidst challenging and complex situations.
- Solid understanding of and ability to analyze client needs and supplies comprehensive solutions to meet those needs.
- Basic level of understanding of the Insurance business.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field.
- Degree from a Technical school or equivalent work experience.
- On the job training is also recognized.
- 5-7 years of related experience.
- Significant development experience in the languages and technologies used by the company.
- An intermediate level understanding of the Insurance business.
- Work experience in Property Casualty or Specialty Insurance a plus.
