Welding Engineer
The Weld Engineer is responsible for ensuring all weld processes are being followed, these processes are up-to-date and employees have had the proper weld related training to perform their job. The Weld Engineer is expected to work closely with plant management to achieve productivity and quality improvements that drive our World Class Welding program.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
•Exhibits and promotes the Company Vision and Values in performance of position's duties, especially as they relate to interaction and supervision of other employees
•Responsible for the manual side of the 7 Steps program (development, training, enforcement, etc.).
•Support manufacturing processes in the specific area of GMAW, and GTAW.
•Responsible for the print review process.
•Implement and maintain qualification of weld processes and personnel to welding codes such as AWS D1.1, D1.3, D14.3 and other customer standards such as Caterpillar’s Seven Steps to Weld Excellence.
•Contribute to the strategic direction of the welding department by researching new processes and equipment.
•Confer with management, production, and other top management to determine engineering feasibility, cost, and cost effectiveness of welding systems.
•Responsible for the development, design, implementation, and evaluation of all manual weld training.
•Responsible for development of manual weld process improvements.
•Contribute to analysis of costs, capacity, equipment, and productivity improvements.
•Drive continuous improvement and document process improvement.
•Provide analytical problem solving and process troubleshooting support.
•Responsible for weld development and associated WPS, PQR and WPQR
•Responsible for approval process of new weld work in plant
•Participate in APQP, PPAP, and FMEA meetings.
•Maintain and ensure TPM program for weld is up to date and effective.
•Monitor orders for consumables and weekly use
•Must answer any CAR’s issued to the department through 8Ds
•Responsible for the cleanliness and orderliness of work areas to a 5S standard.
•Responsible for the maintenance of WI / WS/PIs that are specific to department.
•Responsible for the enforce company safety policies and compliance with OSHA standards and regulations.
•Assist with the performance management of their employees (performance appraisals, discipline, etc.).
•Other duties as assigned by Management.
•Support WC team and attends daily WC meetings to abreast of team activities and target achievement
Required Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
•Strong knowledge of welding processes.
•Strong ability to read and understand blue prints.
•Excellent customer relations skills.
•Must possess excellent written and oral communication skills.
•Must be knowledgeable of Microsoft Office programs (PowerPoint, Excel, Word, Outlook) and Internet Explorer.
•Must have ability to multitask.
•Must have a high attention to detail.
•Team oriented attitude.
•Must be able to organize, assign, instruct and direct the work of others.
•Ability to read, understand and follow all appropriate Primary / Secondary Work Instructions.
Education and Experience:
•High school diploma required.
•Must have Certified Weld Inspector certification or equivalent work experience.
•1-3 years experience in a supervision role, preferably in manufacturing.
•Previous experience in weld process teaching or training related field is a plus.

Physical Demands:
•Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
•Position requires frequent bending, twisting, lifting, and standing for prolonged periods of time.
•Must pass AWS visual test criteria.
