Job Description

Position - Maintenance Technician

Location - Mongaup Power Projects, Mongaup Valley (Forestburgh, New York)

Classification - This position is considered Full-Time / Exempt


Responsibilities and Duties

The individual assigned to this position is responsible for the safe, environmentally compliant, and efficient operation of the Mongaup Power Projects located in the Mongaup Valley in New York. The project consists of three FERC-Licensed hydroelectric power stations and associated infrastructure. Some specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Qualify in and maintain qualifications for all facility-designated safety, environmental and operational programs as provided in the Initial Qualification Standard (IQS).
  • Maintain security at the main powerhouses and at all outlying structures and grounds.
  • Maintain the facility grounds and non-power generation equipment as assigned.
  • Identify any abnormal conditions and take the appropriate corrective actions as directed.
  • Safeguard the facilities by complying with and enforcing all facility safety policies.
  • Maintain compliance with all local, state, and federal environmental permits and regulatory requirements to the extent applicable.
  • Assist in the operation of the facilities in the most efficient manner possible without jeopardizing personal safety or degrading any equipment.
  • Comply with company standards, practices, and policies, including all mandated safety activities.
  • Assist in developing and improving policies and procedures.
  • Performing maintenance tasks as assigned.
  • Work a designated shift schedule, working overtime and performing tasks that require physical exertion.
  • Remain available while working in an “On-Call” status.
  • Be proficient in the use of personal computers; specifically, in the use of the MicroSoft Office Suite software programs such as; WORD, EXCEL, ACCESS and Outlook.
  • Perform all other collateral duties as assigned.
  • Perform all light maintenance tasks as assigned.
  • Maintain a current and valid driver’s license in the state of New York.

Organizational Relationships

  • Report directly to the Regional Manager.

Qualifications

The individual assigned to this position should have a minimum of 3 years’ experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment or equivalent.

  • Experience with hydro and/or gas turbine power generation is preferred.
  • Experience in the use of personal computers.
  • Ability to work both independently and as a member of a team.
  • Ability to understand complex issues as they relate to plant operations.
  • Ability to work extended hours, if and when required.
  • Ability to perform assigned tasks, including:
    • The ability to distinguish between colors
    • The ability to climb ladders and to be at heights of 80 – 100 feet
    • The ability to lift 50 pounds
    • The ability to work in confined spaces
    • The ability and dexterity to manipulate various size components from valves to small electrical switches to computer keyboards
    • The ability to perform sampling procedures
    • The ability to read and understand the English language
    • The ability to communicate effectively with others
    • The ability to "handle" quick changing situations under stress
