POSITION SUMMARY

The Senior Transportation Manager is responsible for the overall management of all transportation activities in multiple facilities (3 factory units, Finished Goods warehouse, Raw & Packaging Material warehouse plus external 3PL warehouses) based in the U.S. and Canada. The position overseas all inter-company transfers, outbound transportation services to all customers in the Americas, direct shipments from overseas to customers in Americas, as well as tracking all inbound drayage of FG & RM/PM coming to the U.S. Warehouses from overseas. This position is accountable for setting up and monitoring KPI’s for transportation to insure targets are met with smooth and efficient operational flow to meet the requirements of Customers, Factories and Company goals.

  • Prepare, implement and monitor the monthly/annual freight budget with support from Director of Warehouse & Logistics. Develop, implement, and maintain a robust transportation system such that the Company can deliver products directly to customers in the most cost effective and efficient manner.
  • Conduct “Request for Pricing” (RFP’s) regularly with new potential carriers and negotiate existing rates with existing carriers. Compile and analyze historical shipping/freight data to monitor trends and help develop bid packages (RFP’s).
  • Develop, maintain, and execute transportation procedures and proactively identify transportation/documentation compliance issues and initiate corrective action as necessary.
  • Perform analysis of weekly and monthly transportation key performance metrics (transportation costs, freight cost per ton, freight cost to Net Sales, etc.) and present them to the team.
  • Identify inefficiencies in transportation and implement initiatives to improve service, cost and efficiency.
  • Search new industry trends, new technology to optimize the flow in multi-plant locations with optimal efficiency and reasonable cost to support the Company vision. Continually look for ways to improve the transportation flow. Plan and provide the most direct and on-time delivery to customers.
  • Work closely with other functions to ensure effective cross-functional communications and teamwork.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

The Senior Transportation Manager must carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the Company's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include managing time and attendance of the team, training employees, planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; addressing complaints and resolving problems, career planning for the team and etc.

QUALIFICATIONS

A. REQUIRED EDUCATION, SKILLS and EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Transportation or related field.
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in a transportation leadership role in food manufacturing industry.
  • Certified in Transportation, Transportation and Distribution (CLTD) is highly preferred.
  • Must have hands-on experience to build a team and operational system immediately.
  • Must be customer-oriented, results driven, self-motivated, and self-confident with exceptional leadership, trustworthiness, high EQ, and ability to manage urgent tasks.
  • Must have Import/Export experience – working with freight forwarders, drayage companies.
  • Must have experience with freight rate negotiation and tendering loads for : customer pick up, contract carrier, truckload broker, LTL, and expedited.
  • Experience working with 3PL partners is desired.
  • Must have a can-do and learning attitude.
  • Strong ownership and high integrity.
  • Must be organized and able to prioritize tasks and handle multi-tasks in a fast work pace.
  • Strong logical, analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Must be proficient in ERP system (SAP is highly preferred), MS Office including Words, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook.

B. LANGUAGE SKILLS

  • This individual must possess excellent communication and presentation skills both written and verbal.
  • Must be fluent in English.
  • Spanish is preferred.

C. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

  • The candidate must be able to apply mathematical concepts to compute rates, discounts, percentages, and draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Working knowledge of SAP, Word, Excel, etc. is required.

D. PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

  • Regularly required to use hands and fingers to perform daily job functions.
  • Required to stand, sit, kneel, and walk when performing essential job functions.
  • Occasional lifting and/or moving up to 50 pounds.
  • The position does not require travel out of the office.
