In search of a passionate and dedicated designer who wants to have a big impact on how visitors and members interact with navigating and exploring information across the enterprise. The Principal UX Designer for Navigation and Wayfinding will partner directly with the Studio’s Sr. Director of Design and Journey Owner to set the tone and re-envision how important navigation and wayfinding principles can improve member and visitor experiences and truly help the healthcare system work better for everyone.
We are seeking a person who is passionate about creating great experiences within health care. Their goal is to understand our users and business needs and collaborate with the Journey Owner and other stakeholders to help create a great product experience for our users. This role will work within a collaborative, cross-functional project team to design portals, applications, and web properties. They will partner with UX researchers, other UXers, and developers to build out information architectures, interactive designs, and more to create helpful and delightful experiences and ensure that every member and site visitor can easily navigate to what they need to find and understand clearly where they are.

Primary Responsibilities:
- Lead the design strategy and execution for projects that help our members and site visitors easily navigate to needed information
- Translate product strategy into a compelling design vision through wireframes, flow diagrams, sketches, storyboards, mockups, and/or high‐fidelity prototypes to communicate the current or future user experience
- Provide thought leadership and oversee the work of several designers from concepting to execution
- Provide material experience and design support for the Consumer Experience on UHC Member authenticated and consumer sites as needed by Digital Product teams
- Support product strategy, Information Architecture, user research, experience requirements gathering from stakeholders.
- Leverage and contribute to existing design systems, pattern libraries, and UI guidelines
- Perform design duties for one or more projects to meet UX, technical, and business needs
- Interpret analytics, voice of the customer, market feedback, site rankings and any relevant collateral as needed
- Explore emerging opportunity in the healthcare digital space, evaluate and evangelize as needed
- Be the voice of the user in prioritization, new product and feature development for Digital Products and other digital experience areas as needed
- Lead discussion and critique of work, solicit requirements from stakeholders, be a key partner in helping deliver on our mission
- Anticipate customer needs and proactively develop solutions to meet them
- Solve complex problems and develops innovative solutions

Required Qualifications:
- 7+ years of UX design experience, including: some experience evaluating and/or designing wayfinding and navigational experiences including headers, footers, flyout or dropdown navigation, site taxonomy analysis, browse paths, etc. including search results pages, search box interactions or other answer-seeking experiences
- Experience creating wireframes and prototypes to communicate design concepts
- Experience with various UX design and collaboration tools (e.g., Figma, Sketch, Axure, InVision, Miro, etc.)
- Experience participating in user research and concept testing with users
- Portfolio of relevant user experience project deliverables
- Excellent communication skills, including the ability to present complex concepts clearly and persuasively across diverse audiences at various levels of the organization
Preferred Qualifications:
- Degree in Design, Human‐Computer Interaction (HCI), Psychology, Information Architecture, Communications, Computer Science, or a related discipline
- Experience designing enterprise software, B2B applications or large employee‐facing systems and medical or healthcare domains
- Knowledge of UX‐ related analytics, metrics, and measurement techniques
- Experience training and mentoring junior design staff

Colorado, Connecticut or Nevada Residents Only: The salary range for Colorado/Connecticut/Nevada residents is $97,300 to $176,900. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
